Head or Hair Bands come in a variety of styles and widths, are relatively inexpensive, and are good source material for prototype bands (I think). Check them out in the hair accessories department at the store.

Another significant improvement is that I put a liberal amount of lanolin-based cream on my lips. It seals up better and prevents irritation to my lips.
