CMS 50D+ hangs at "Device connected: Waiting for Data" help?

Post by Sibbs » Sun Jul 19, 2015 7:37 am

I have a new CMS 50D+ pulse ox. First night I used it, loaded SPO2 Assistant software on my PC (Win 8.1) and then imported data no problem.

Today it's hanging at "Device connected: Waiting for Data" and won't go forward. I've reconnected multiple times and let it sit for an hour just to see if it would eventually work. No dice. Windows device manager shows the COM3 connection is in good working order.

I've seen past posts here to the effect of "If you have a 50D+ do NOT turn off the record until when you're downloading it or you will lose the data", but I did not do it that way my first time and it worked fine. Don't want to lose last night's data if I can help it. Any tips?

Is their software or device known to be buggy? I just reconnected it for the 15th or so time and it transferred. (Didn't reboot my computer or anything...).

Are you making sure the probe is "on" by pushing and holding the button? It will show that message if you plug it in with the pulse ox off.

EDIT: also, asfik, it's do not turn record back ON until you've downloaded the data. I always turn record OFF when I turn off CPAP in the morning, download whenever, just be sure not to turn record back ON until you're finished recording.

Also, I think I push the button TWICE, so it's on the menu screen, not the "finger out" screen, so that it stays "on" while downloading.

make *double* sure you're using the cable that came with the unit, it's *NOT* a usb cable, it just looks like one.

turn the unit on, and hold down the button until you're in the menu.

then tell the sw to download the data.

one of the reasons I don't like the d+, it's a bit cheaper, but it's finicky and has a voracious appetite for batteries.

I believe that ^^^ did it. Device needs to be both on and in the menu screen (though there's no upload option per se).

Thanks, palerider, for the warning about battery life. What's your preferred model?

the I model, it's wrist mounted, rechargable, uses a plain usb cord, finger sensor stays on a lot better, and it records many days of sessions that can be downloaded into sleepyhead all at once for review, since it records multiple sessions, they're time stamped, and SH will set the clock for you, so if your cpap clock is close enough to your computer clock, everything lines up nicely in sleepyhead. if you don't feel like downloading every day, you can batch import the sessions into SH.
they're available for under 100$ from aliexpress.com if you dig through the many listings.

I took palerider's advice and bought one from aliexpress. It's a great little pulse-ox and I was pleased with aliexpress. Highly recommended!
