New to BiPap

Are BiPap users required to use a full face mask? Can a mouth breather become a nose breather after awhile when using a nasal mask? Thanks.

Absolutely not.

To answer your other question, it depends. If you breath through your nose easily during the day and simply might have gotten into the bad habit of breathing through your mouth at night, once you have optimal therapy which usually leads to keeping your mouth closed, yes, you can become a nose breather. But if you breath through your mouth during the day, you may have difficulty breathing through your nose using a nasal mask at night although some people in this situation find that using a nasal/nasal pillow mask opens up their sinuses at night enabling nose breathing. Other people find they have to use a full face mask.

You might want to start by filling our equipment profile and telling us more about your situation. What is your prescribed pressure and what mask are you currently using? What are the positives and negatives of it?

Welcome to the forum by the way.

For some reason my machine does not show in my signature. I have tried to save it numerous times. My setting is 17/7.

10 is a high pressure support setting for a bipap setting and may be causing your problems with nasal breathing. Was that determined from a titration at a sleep lab and prescribed by your doctor?

if you can figure out how to keep the air from coming out your mouth, sure. it's kinda the opposite of blowing up a balloon, where you make all the air go out your mouth, and not your nose.

Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit model number. I suspect that your machine isn't showing up because you selected the older discontinued bipap model machine.

The humidifier you have chosen only works on the 50 series machines and the 50 series was replaced by the 60 series.

If you have a 60 series machine the last 2 digits of the model number will be either 60 or 61.

The 50 series machine choices in the equipment menu have broken links so they aren't showing up.

What are the 3 digits?
650 or 750
660 or 760

Tell us and then we can advise on correct machine and humidifier choice.

660. Yes, my pulmonologist set up my machine based on the results of my second sleep study. 17.0 and 7.0. The doctor is board certified.
