Air in Stomach

Post by Lisa5678 » Thu Jul 09, 2015 3:02 pm

Hey ya'll,

I keep getting air in my stomach when I turn the machine up to get the amount of air I need for a good night's sleep. So I turn the machine down but then don't get enough air and wake up exhausted. Can I ge a chin strap? Will that solve the problem? (I'm a mouth breather). I'm such a zombie today. I hope this makes sense.

Hi Lisa,

What you are experiencing is called aerophagia and is really just swallowing air. It happens at higher pressures.

Can you use the User Control Panel in the upper left to post what machine and mask you are using? Pick text as a display method as many machines look just alike even when the models are different.

What pressure is your scrip saying you need to use? It may be possible to get good therapy at a little less.

Some people seem to be able to handle/cope with a mild to moderate amount of aerophagia and others tend get their therapy derailed. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to who suffers, however I can easily handle mild to moderate amounts of aerophagia. I don't like the resulting gas in the morning, but that being said, I feel pretty lucky that it doesn't get so bad for me that I lose sleep over it. How did I learn how to handle it? I think I just learned over time to ignore it and relax at night. If your aerophagia is severe then you'll need to ask specifically for help with that problem. A chin strap would certainly be a good thing first off to try. I like the Ruby Chinstrap available at CPAP.com.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
