I really do not like the DME that I have been using since diagnosis, and so I tried to get a mask from a different store. Had the prescription in hand for cpap mask and supplies. But the DME will not honor the prescription, saying that they needed a copy of my sleep study in order to issue it.
What the heck??
My sleep study was done 5 years ago, and I haven't seen the sleep doc in two years.
I guess it's time for a new sleep study anyway, so I can get a newer ASV. The one I have still has the old power system and I've heard the newer one is much easier to breathe with. But still!!
I sometimes order through our wonderful host company, but I've met my deductible for the year, and the DME one would be free, as opposed to having to pay out of pocket for one over the internet.
Another DME issue
Re: Another DME issue
Your insurance company will have a copy of the sleep study and any other documentation that is needed by them to pay for something.
Call them up and explain the situation. See if they can help you out or if they need the new DME to actually send another copy. I can't see the insurance company needing anything other than the RX from the new DME as long as your insurance hasn't changed.

This sounds like Apria. They wanted all possible paperwork.
Probably to cover their ugly, bloated backsides.
Did the DME also demand a credit card number?

Re: Another DME issue
This is more your Insurance company than the DME. The DME can't submit the item for reimbursement because your insurance company wants a current RX (less than a year old). If the DME can't get money from the Insurance they are surely not going to give you a mask unless you are willing to just buy the mask from them in full.Bons wrote:Had the prescription in hand for cpap mask and supplies. Of course, to take advantage of your insurance.... you need to follow their rules which means making sure you are in compliance etc.. and not just taking the equipment and selling it.
Our hosts will take an RX without this type of restriction because they don't bill the insurance company, you would have to try. And then you are in a round robin.

Re: Another DME issue
When I switched DMEs 3 years ago they accepted my then 4 year old sleep study along with a new prescription.

Re: Another DME issue
Yep, they will give you nothing but trouble. Just get a copy of your old sleep study. It will work fine along with the new prescription. I agree, there is no reason for them to need it given that you aren't buying a machine, but they will insist to dot the i's and t's.Bons wrote:I really do not like the DME that I have been using since diagnosis, and so I tried to get a mask from a different store.
