Got my results...

Post by Mechgeno » Tue Jun 23, 2015 1:55 pm

Apparently they found nothing wrong with my results at all. I've been checked for like everything. So I guess I don't have apnea at all. Don't know what to do. I mean I'm fatigued all the time, I've been exercising a lot, nothing is helping me. I'm stuck.

Okay well, see I only just called and they told me the doctor had nothing to note about my results. I haven't seen him yet but they said if there was something he would have called me. So I'm seeing him on the 15 next month, I'll try to get a free spot before then if someone else cancels. I'll ask for my results and then post them here.

Call the office and tell them you will be by tomorrow to pick up a copy of your test results. They are required to give them to you by law.

Describe your fatigue. Morning head pressure too? I exercise too and am always fatigued and tired.

Yes, please do get a copy of your detailed report. Should be a few pages. Sometimes there are clues in the smallest of details. The info you were given was actually a whole lot of nothing. It's unbelievable how much falls through the cracks. My GP once sent me to see a specialist. Long time, no word. Figured everything must have been ok - it was not. The GP thought the specialist was following through with me and the specialist thought by sending the report to the GP he was passing the ball back. It was ages later that I accidentally found that out in a routine GP appointment. You coulda knocked my GP over with a feather he was so unsettled by it. My perspective now is it is my responsibility to see my own reports and initiate conversation with a doctor about the results. Nobody cares about me more than me, and when "the buck stops here" nothing is left to chance. Maybe you don't have sleep apnea and further investigation needs to be done to find a cause for your symptoms. Or maybe your test was inconclusive due to not having enough or the right data to reach an informed conclusion. One thing to check for is if they were able to see a chunk of time in REM while supine. That gives the best opportunity for the worst case scenario to manifest. Absence of REM while supine may not make a difference in the end in ruling out sleep apnea or assigning it's degree of severity, but one cannot be certain. Let us know how this progresses.

Well you see, I slept 5 hours in total but only on my right side. I don't move from my position when I'm asleep. I also remember waking up with my heart beating very fast, then a doctor trying to tell me "You don't stop breathing enough to "try the mask" and that my doctor will be able to deal with it, could be something else or it could be nothing." This made me anxious as all hell, I was in such a confused state just waking up and hearing that... I'm all "what o_o... who?, Uh okay? wait what?" xD. I left so anxious, I thought to myself "Is there anything that could have affected the test? Anything to cause it to fail" Actually yeah, can the test fail? Can it not work somehow? I just wonder if there is anything that would cause it to fail? I don't drink caffiene or alchohol so...? Since I woke up anxious I was probably anxious in my sleep, could anxiety mess it up?

No, no morning head pressure. I am sometimes sore all over, numb in some places. Sometimes I'm very nauseous and sometimes I just feel like I barely got any rest.

Ok. Let's piece that together with the results and see if anything jumps out. If you absolutely NEVER roll onto your back, and you do have positional sleep apnea, you shouldn't have symptoms because theoretically you would never experience it. You'll need to check that you got a good amount of REM sleep even on your side. Some have mostly REM events. Without the report it's hard to say much more.

I agree with the other posters. Call them and tell them that you are coming in for a copy of your sleep study tomorrow. Could they have it ready for you to pick up at X time?

If I waited until my doctor's appointment to get my results, I'd still be waiting. Why? Because they didn't offer me copies of anything. I only had a copy of the prescription and a brief report of the titration. I had already obtained a copy of my study and then went back and had a fresh copy of my entire titration and report. I don't want just a summery. Tells me nothing.
