Why am I saving all of my data?
Why am I saving all of my data?
I've been copying all the files and folders from my SD card to my hard drive since I started using CPAP in 2011. That includes:
DATALOG (to which I add the latest files)
SETTINGS
Identification.crc
Identification.tgt
STR.crc
STR.edf
I've never used these files for anything, so I'm wondering why should I save them?
Since I'm using ResScan, all my data since day 1 is already saved by ResScan in the ResMed folder and backed up to two external drives with the rest of my important files.

Re: Why am I saving all of my data?
ResScan keeps a copy of your imported data just like sleepyhead does.
Detail data once imported is really no longer needed. I make a backup of my SDcard occassionally but only keep a couple backups and flush the rest as unnecessary.
My normal backups backup my Sleephead data files for me so I don't need to think about that.

Not a clue. I use my data to tweak my treatment. I don't have to answer to the XPAP Police.
Unless you are on the watch list, for some reason, I don't see the need, but it doesn't take up much space, and isn't considered hoarding. Jim

Re: Why am I saving all of my data?
If you have simple apnea, I would keep about a week's worth for every 6 months, but everything for the current year. You never know when your medical history becomes important because you don't know what changes are actual precursors to new problems. Once in a while, it changes treatment. It's just a spotlight on that period, but it's useful. If you have more complex problems, then I'd keep that much more data, maybe a week every quarter for the most recent 3 years.
Everybody has a different take on this and much depends on your personal medical issues.

A few stolen moments is all that we share. You've got your family and they need you there. Though I try to resist, being last on your list. But no other machine is gonna do, so i'm saving all my data for you.

I'm leaning towards dumping it, and just keeping the files that ResScan saves, which is already 4 Gig. I have plenty of space, but if it becomes a problem I'll move it to a DVD just in case.
Re: Why am I saving all of my data?
I have my data from 2012 on..but...I have never looked back. All I am interested in is how I am doing presently...I really don't care about my CPAP history.

Because your a digital hoarder? Remember film cameras? How many photos did you have around then as compared to now? Good thing is you don't need to dust digital stuff.

Re: Why am I saving all of my data?
I think it might be a good idea to keep a copy in Sleepyhead as well as Resscan or Encore, depending on your machine. You never can tell tell when something weird might pop up and Murphy requires that your files will become corrupt just before you really need them.
I also have a problem trusting backups done in anything other than native file format. I have tape cartridges, 8" floppies, 5 1/4 floppies and Windows Backup files. None of them are now accessible. Even with the old drives there are no compatible connectors on a modern computer to use any of it. Even Sata hard drives are suspect. They have been around almost long enough to be replaced soon.

Save everything as .pdf files..... work everywhere, and as you age, you can make them bigger so you can still read them.
