So glad you are feeling better Bill.Bill44133 wrote:I logged into mychart which is my medical record online and the first year my vitamin D was check my count was 14, and i remember the doctor telling me she needed to blast me with vitamin D.49er wrote:As one who is very sensitive to supplements in addition to meds, I was dreading being prescribed this amount when my vitamin D level was tested last year because this seems to be standard practice by many physicians when levels are low. Fortunately, my level was fine and the issue was moot. But if in the future, it tests low, I will ask to be allowed to take alot less even if it takes longer to get up to the right amount.Bill44133 wrote:I take a prescription of 1 Vitamin D of 50,000 units per week. The doctor renewed my prescription at that time. Good Luck getting it all figured out.
I wish you well...
Glad your level seems to be going up Bill.

I know when I have forgotten to take it about the 2nd week I feel the difference in how I feel.
I was such a mess when I finally broke down to find and then go see the doctor. Considering I have to go a few more years it is all worth it.

Re: Vitamin D
It can be. Wasn't for me. I've been chronically low in vitamin D for 3 years and my sleepy issues only started since last summer. I take 50,000 units twice a week and still don't reach normal levels. They think this is because of diabetes.

22 is low for sure. Make sure it is D3 and I recommend, as mentioned earlier, taking it the morning or mid-day rather than in the evening.Noctuary wrote:I picked up my D today; it is 5000 IU once per day. My test showed a D score of 22.

And I have found my daytime sleepiness decreasing after two weeks of the supplement and I found it easier to tolerate my CPAP, I'm not saying the Vit D makes xPAP easier just saying what I've noticed with me.

Re: Vitamin D
Theoretically (there was a small study), you can enhance your vitamin D uptake from your pill by taking it with the largest meal of the day. The small study showed that no matter what amount you were taking, you absorbed a lot more when doing so. So, I've been doing that for 6 months and we'll find out later this month if it made any difference. The highest I ever get is 24 and I'm actually out in the sun a fair amount.

Re: Vitamin D
Getting Vitamin D by sun exposure is the correct method, but has the disadvantage of requiring, well, sunshine. For most of the US, getting enough sunshine to produce Vitamin D is only possible during certain months of the year. For correct sun exposure, most of the US can write off all winter months, and most of spring and fall also. Key West and Hawaii may be the only exceptions (or maybe I just want to go there ). Dr. Mercola has written about this extensively on his website and has even produced a calendar that shows the amount of sunshine hours required by month and by state. For example, you folks that live in the far north have no chance of getting enough sunshine except for maybe a couple months in the summer. The sunshine requirements are, 1) the sun must be so many degrees above the horizon to be effective (I cannot remember how high at the moment, but that is what kills most months in northern areas), and a large area of skin exposed without a heavy dose of sunscreen. On another forum I saw a person post that a doctor recommended that she really covered herself with sunscreen, wear sun blocking clothing (and the poster lived up north), and that would get her enough Vitamin D - - NOT. Never take a doctor's word on this subject; they will almost always be wrong, and they will never mention Vitamin K2 (likely have never even heard of it), which is essential if you are taking Vitamin D supplements.SewTired wrote:Theoretically (there was a small study), you can enhance your vitamin D uptake from your pill by taking it with the largest meal of the day.
