Best face mask for stomach and side sleeping ?

Post by Hopefullady » Sun May 17, 2015 11:38 am

Well hello all.
Got my CPAP machine a few weeks ago but the full-face mask hurt the bridge of my nose, and it was quite uncomfortable using during the hours I'm sleeping on side & stomach.

DME is coming out tomorrow to fit me for another kind. I'm assuming some type of nasal mask would be better for side/stomach sleeping since it's smaller.

Any specific styles etc you can give feedback on for this? Good or bad experiences?

Thanks

I sleep on my side as much as I can *smile*, and have found the Swift FX and the AirFit P10 to be the best masks for that. Don't sleep on my stomach, my neck couldn't take it...so I don't know what to recommend for that. I haven't found a nasal mask that works for me, but the nasal pillow masks I mentioned do work fine. Currently using the Swift FX, since its headgear works best for me, but a lot of people like the AirFit P10, too.

If nasal pillows work for you you might look at the TapPap.

I like the Sleepweaver Elan. It is a cloth mask and very easy to deal with if your pressure requirements are modest, say under 14 cm h2o.

I sleep on my stomach using the Quattro Air and occasionally the F&P Flexfit 432. Both are FFM.

I like the F&P Simplus because it has the ball joint swivel for the connection and seems to give me more options for sleeping positions.

Huh. Interesting. So there are people who use FS for stomach sleeping ! Wow. I've got a Mirage Quattro.
The F&P Simplus sounds interesting as well as the nasal pillows.
Going to ask DME for more hosing too, as flipping sleeping positions pulls on it too much.

Thanks for the feedback!

To me, it's not necessarily the mask, but the pillow. I use a buckwheat pillow because it can be "shaped" and not interfere with the mask. There also some cpap pillows of the soft phone (Temper-pedic)
type that have cut-outs for the mask.

I like the P10 because of the extra length of hose on the mask that gives more turning room and the hose is very light and flexible.

Since it is advised not to sleep on your back with OSA, most everyone sleeps on their side or stomach. Personally I use the Quattro FF mask without any problem. Whether you sleep on your side or stomach you really need to sleep with your head turned on the edge of your pillow so most of the mask hangs over the side.
There are nose pads and mask liners available to help with your nose problem.

I use Resmed Airfit P10 nasal pillows and sleep on my stomach.
