O/T Canadian National Exhibition

Post by 5aces » Fri Aug 21, 2009 11:28 pm

Ah yes,the good 'ol CNE signals the start of many fall fairs and the unofficial end of summer.

I haven't been in some years,so I decided to hop on the subway and take the streetcar across to the 131 year old event.

In celebration of the 175th anniversary of the City of Toronto a $1.75 admission fee was offered on this opening day.(it's $15 regular)

So I left the house at quarter past seven and had a beer in my hand by 9:15pm inside the beer gardens.

Johnny Winter, the bluesman, was up on the bandshell while the barbeques smoked away in the background.

On the subway home, for the first time in quite a while,I was not sleeping on the way home!

On the way in

Yes of course! didn't you know that in Ontario women are legally allowed to go topless?
We just don't make a big thing off it! Getting all excited and emotional is so declasse ( lower class for you anglophones)

It was made in China like every other phone.

President Bill Clinton is a keynote speaker at the BMO Stadium on Aug.29.09,inside the CNE.

He will address "embracing our common humanity"

Even a CNE exhibit just for you jdm2857!

Come on up,price includes admission to the EX!

I rarely see any of our classy Ontario females exercising their topless rights, sorry to disappoint...

It was a great summer night of fun and I actually felt good today after waking up.

I have to admit that I have been to Mississauga several times for business, and each time chose to stay in downtown Toronto instead of at a highway chain hotel. And eat at real restaurants instead of highway chains.

I was very impressed with the city. Had a great time each trip.

Even if they do call the money "Loonies".

It's having the right that's important!

Great photos, 5! Glad that you're feeling good, too.

I can guess what he Bill Clinton is up to.
Yep, Slick Willie is back, not that he was ever completely gone.

Just when you think Slick Willie belongs to history, he pops up in North Korea.

He's like some Golem you've invoked for what seemed perfectly good reasons at the time, but who then refuses to go away when his time is over.

Arkansas' prodigal son mentioned that, of all the nicknames he's acquired, he likes Slick Willie the least.

So who really created Slick Willie? That's easy: Bill Clinton.

I love that 'moniker'.

How come every ot thread ends up on US politics?

Just for your information we don't consider sex acts to news worthy unless the politician leaves classified documents at his biker girlfriends home!

My Favorite Canadian 'scandal' such as they are:

1977: Margaret Trudeau
Amid growing gossip in 1977 that the marriage of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and his wife, Margaret, was coming to an end, it took a rock star to turn speculation into scandal.

On their sixth wedding anniversary, Margaret attended a Rolling Stones concert in Toronto and was later seen partying with the band well into the night.

Following this, she immediately flew to New York to avoid the scrutiny of the press, though this ill-timed disappearance only further fuelled the media furore as lead singer Mick Jagger happened to be heading the same way.

In the end, both Jagger and the Trudeaus denied any wrongdoing.

Yeah that whole marriage was interesting - however none of it was ever brought up as part of any official political campaign.

Glad you had fun at the Ex 5aces!! We are heading down on Labour Day. Joining the parade with kids union and get free admission so YAY. I haven't been in years. I think my oldest was just a wee one last time I was there.

Will stop in and visit my old friend at Tiny Tom's donuts. As a teenager all my favorite bands played at stadium there.
These beautiful kids in my avi are my motivation for getting healthy and staying compliant. Need to be around a long time. See my new blog at http://creativekidscakeslife.blogspot.com/ Baking Blog http://feedingtheravenoushorde.blogspot.com

Well,I thought I would go as a 'test' excursion since this whole cpap thing.

Lots of walking and a late night.

I held up pretty well but seemed to pay for it the last couple of days now.

Still house bound more than anything.

If you enter at the TTC drop off (Manitoba Drive) and proceed straight on between the Food Building and the Horse Palace, you will indeed find Tiny Tom Donuts a short walk in from the gate!

Now that you no longer have to push a stroller, everyone should have a blast, the old EX never looked better...

Yes,the memories are definitely there.

One thing I didn't get to was the Tornado Potato:

Image

Promising to be the star food attraction at this year’s CNE, the Tornado Potato is an entire tuber specially cut and clinging to an oversized skewer.
It is deep-fried to a golden brown for two minutes in vegetable oil. Spray bottles of vinegar stand by, alongside ketchup and salt.
It is all a french-fry fan could hope for.
I've seen them wrapped around a sausage too.
Try one for me Froro!
(P.S.-the vendor is on Princes’ Boulevard, take a picture and post it later)
