Finding affordable machine

Post by sleepwriters » Tue Sep 20, 2016 10:34 am

I'm a newbie with apnea. Doctor wants me to use a medical supplier that of course wants a bunch of money up front and monthly rent. Money's extremely tight. I found a company online called Secondwind CPAP. Is anyone familiar with them? Do they have a good price vs. the quality/cleanliness of the machines?

My insurance is, of course, a joke.

If I bought a machine elsewhere, is there a good way to clean the machine?

Secondwindcpap.com is a good place to buy from with very fair pricing for both gently used and new open box equipment.

Cleaning the 'machine' itself is unnecessary regardless of it being new or otherwise, plus Secondwind would already have taken care of any superficial or visible problems anyway. You need only clean the mask with baby wipes daily, maybe mild soap and water weekly (if that) and the hose requires nothing at all ever. Whatever you do, stay away from SoClean, a company pushing their method of 'cleaning' the insides of the machine (never, ever necessary) using ozone... total rip off and complete scam. Secondwind's great to deal with.

@Gasper, re "NoClean" at Secondwind:
They probably got a great deal off a bankruptcy.
Sometimes purchasing agents fall for "little extras";
Maybe a goodbye shot to the ex-boss. Stuff happens.

That in no way excuses their peddling known snake oil to unsuspecting victims, even if they got em for free. (IMO)

Make sure that you know how to adjust whichever machine you get to your prescription. Some of the older machines do not collect any data except the number of hours the machine runs (whether the mask is attached or not). I call that the "odometer."

Also, make sure that you can get filters, water chambers, any other maintenance parts, and repairs for that machine. For instance, AEIO med is out of business, so even though I liked their machine, don't get one.

I've never used this program so I can't say how good it is, but might be worth a try. Seems they send an entire package, which might even include a mask, for $100.

Really? I looked at their website, seems very pricey. I've been out of the loop I guess.

I also found this. I don't know anything about it other than finding it online just now.

Their prices are fair...not screaming hot cheap deals but fair.
They warranty even the used machines for a short period of time and the new open box machines get the full 2 years warranty.
For what they offer and do they need to make a profit.

Find another online website that will sell you a gently used low hour cpap machine with a short warranty for much less than secondwind. There's not a lot of choices out there.

Reggie White Foundation and ASAA are good sources for rock bottom, sometimes basic equipment.
If you are really needy, I recommend those, but for those who are just plain cheap,
please leave the limited resources for those who are in dire straits.
If you are concerned about "fair" prices, shop the prices for mattresses and bedroom furniture.
Cpap is, for many of us, the most important furnishing in the bedroom.
I, for one, feel like I am worth it.
