Post by trackerbishop » Sat Aug 05, 2006 10:29 pm

just finished my last sleep study, this one was done with a cpap titration. i have mild - moderate obstructive sleep apnea.

the machine was a homedics, nose mask, with humidifier. i loved it soooo much. i fell right to sleep and slept on my back the WHOLE night (first time in forever). i loved having the air come in.

but which machine do i get? id like to get one that has a humidifier.

ill probably buy their nose mask unless you guys know of a really nice one

i need to hurry up and get this before more brain cells die

i think id like one that has a manual adjustment setting, because i like to experiment.

i didnt need a mouth strap either.

my oxygen levels went from a 90 to a 95, or something like that, dont remember the units.

If you are an experimenter at heart, you might consider a unit that stores and reports detailed data. IMO, the ultimate machine for adjusting the settings and watching the results would be an AUTO (example, the Respironics Remstar AUTO w/ C-Flex and heated humidifier). Having said that, virtually all of the CPAP/APAP/BiPAP/VPAP/iPAP* machines are adjustable in some form or another. But without the data, or the AUTO feature, the experimentation you describe can take weeks or months, as opposed to simply overnight. I like your attitude of being involved with changing the settings and observing how it affects the outcome. You have what it takes to succeed in this endeavor. I say BRAVO!

That would be % O2 saturation, the measure of how much arterial hemoglobin is carrying oxygen, compared with the theoretical maximum, expressed as a percentage. It is a measure of pulmonary function, which just HAPPENS to include whether or not you are breathing. Other things can affect how well oxygen gets from the outside air and through your lungs, but "breathing" is always at the top of the list. .

iPAP* - i'm still hoping that Apple® will come up with an affordable XPAP that includes a MP3 player and has at LEAST a GIG of memory and a USB interface. probably only a matter of time.

Have your doctor order the same setup for you. He'll will probably hook
you up with Aparrhea the worst DME ever, but they are like Microsoft,
you have to deal with them.
