Look at the ingredients. It should list wheat or other grains, and various wheat byproducts like "wheat starch" if it has them.
In general, packages will contain something like "contains xxx" where "xxx" is wheat, milk, soy, nuts, etc. for things that there are common food reactions to.
There are some laws about labeling common allergens in food. Basically, it should say contains "xxx" or list it on the ingredients, if it has some ingredient derived from wheat, etc. I don't think you have to list the allergen in the "contains" list if it's a common food listed in the ingredients. For instance, if it says "cheese" in the ingredients, you don't have to say "Contains: milk."
However, most labels list everything in the "Contains" list. I find it a little funny when the "whole wheat bread" says "Warning, Contains wheat" or the jug of milk warns you it contains milk.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I am allergic to wheat. (it makes my feet itch and I have been tested positive) My understanding of the FDA rules are basically as follows:
If it says gluten free or equivalent: it must have less than 20 PPM of gluten. Generally this means no wheat ingredients and no contamination allowed. Some companies interpret this to mean they must test samples to confirm no gluten is in the product. If someone finds gluten above that level there can be a recall and perhaps a lawsuit. It is possible to use wheat as an ingredient in some foods but remove gluten in processing, Other wheat proteins may still be there and make me itch.
If the food has wheat, shell fish, dairy or one of about 5 other ingredients deliberately* added to it they must be listed on the ingredients. They must be listed in the ingredients in normal language. If there is a "contains statement" it must itemize all the ingredients in the 8? most common allergens. so you may see casein and later in the list CONTAINS MILK.
However, they are allowed to accidentally allow contamination of some types. Normally oats are contaminated with wheat in the farm and while being shipped from the farm. If you buy normal oats they will contain some wheat and therefore gluten. The labels that state processed in a facility that handles wheat, etc are generally voluntary.
Gluten free oats are grown on farms where special care is taken to make sure no wheat was grown on the farm last year, no neighbors are growing wheat, is shipped in clean containers and some other steps.
I can order hamburgers with no buns and still itch because they toasted a bun on the grill, then cooked my burger without cleaning it between.
This is over simplified. there are a few other foods that are not called wheat (like rye) which have gluten in them. foods with the word gluten in the name (like glutenous rice) which do not have gluten.
I am not a food scientist. do your own research. your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, keep out of the reach of children (they have sticky fingers they have not washed)

According to Mayo Clinic, this is the eighth most common food allergy in the U.S. But it is quite different and not nearly as severe as celiac disease. Nonetheless, it must make life very inconvenient for you.jacobsbd wrote:I am allergic to wheat.

yes, I know about no beer. By legal definition if something is sold as beer in the US, without disclaimers and without a list of ingredients, it must have a least one of the things that contain gluten in it. these rules were set down before they really knew what gluten was but its in the regulations.
Fortunately when I am exposed to wheat, for me it is just unpleasant. I don't know if I need to stay away from rye and barley. Buckwheat is not wheat at all so I can have that.
I do know people who stay away from gluten but don't avoid beer. I have also met people who are vegetarians who do not avoid jello.
