Buying a new machine

Post by Patrick A » Fri Jul 21, 2006 12:15 am

My question is when I order a new machine can I get a Remstar M pro with C-fex, my current machine is a Remstar Plus with a humidifier. Or does my doctor need to change the prescription to indicate c-flex?

I do not have to bill my insurance, being as I am on Disability Retirement, I am now on medicare. and my PPO is now my secondary insurance. (and I'm not 65 yet) But I worked for the government. I would just like to get the machine any suggestions. Also I want to get rid of this bogus mask that my DME saddled me with.

Your existing prescription allows you legally to get ANY cpap you like. Not all companies will provide more expensive machines for what medicare pays. Billmyinsurance.com supports this site. Call them. They have a great reputation and provide the equipment the patient specifies. There are a ton of posts here about them.

I checked wit bill my insurance.
They said that being as my machine is not 5 years old that Medicare and BlueCrossBlueShield FEHB would not pay for a new machine but Medicare would pay for all of extra things (filters hoses etc.)

Unfortantly, I think billmyins probably gave you the answer, unless you want to buy out of pocket to get what you want, I think you can get a new mask with headgear at 3 mo and a mask with headgear every 6 mo. I am on provider ins, but they seem to follow medicare guidelines. Anyone that knows, feel free to jump in. Jim

Billmyinsurance said they would request a letter of necessity, from my doctor and verify my insurance and see if my primary or medicare would cover the cost of a new machine for me. But the lady said she didn't think it would fly to get a new machine covered because my machine was not 5 years young.
so let's wait and see but she did say once they had a letter from my doctor that medicare and or BC/BS federal would never stop covering my costs and all I would need was possibly a new sleep study but she felt that as long as they had the letter of necessity I would be good to go.
Se let's all hurry up and wait.
