Climateline hose - how long should it last?
Climateline hose - how long should it last?
I ran into an issue last night.
I have been on CPAP for almost 9 months now. Last night when I put my mask on, it started to make "popping" sounds when I moved my head. My wife said she thought I started knocking on the headboard.
I took the mask (Pilairo) apart and put it back together. Same thing.
I had a new Pilairo still in the package, so I opened it and tried it. Same thing.
(Driving my wife crazy at this point as she is trying to get to sleep.)
I disconnected and reconnected the hose from the mask and the ResMed. Same thing.
So at this point, I'm wondering is something is wrong with the machine. I then remember I have an opened regular hose. So I try to swap that for the Climateline, but doesn't seem to fit. I remove the humidifier completely and attache the hose. That did it!!
So I'm thinking there must be a hole or tear in the ClimateLine hose.
Just wondering is anyone has encountered this before and how long a hose should last.

My climate line hose is still fine after 2 years of use.
FWIW-- I have a fleece cover on it year round that is mostly for personal comfort... I hate the feel of the medical plastic.

I had a hose develop a hole, right by the swivel..I always keep a backup everything. Other than the hole they should last a long time, months, maybe years unless something happens to the contact points.

Re: Climateline hose - how long should it last?
I should look into that fleece cover. Most of the time, it's not an issue, but sometimes the hose does lay across or under my arm and I don't like the plastic.
It may be a hole at the contact point, I'll have to take a look when I get home. I had recently had the mask hose coming unattached from the ClimateLine hose a few times, so it seemed it had started to stretch, but it may be more than that.

Aside from our sponsors, there are 2 great places to get hose covers from
http://www.padacheek.com
http://www.snugglehose.com
both offer hose covers with or without zippers
the snugglehose cover is fleece, but a lighter weight than the pad-a-cheek liners

Re: Climateline hose - how long should it last?
If there is water in the hose it will cause a popping noise. Try to have the CPAP lower than your mattress so any excess water runs downhill back to the humidifier.

It's not a water problem in this case as I had just put the mask on for the night. So everything was dry.

Re: Climateline hose - how long should it last?
One additional idea....was there any chance that the water chamber was perhaps a little too full?
I had that happen to me once and water got blown into the hose and made an awful racket.
Otherwise...I have been using my same Climateline hose since mid Jan when I got this S9 machine I have been using and I am not gentle with it and it still works fine.

Re: Climateline hose - how long should it last?
The water chamber was less than half full. I hadn't added water to it for a couple of days and I never fill it more than half way as I don't seem to go through very much water.
The noise also only happened when I would move my head. So that's leading me to think of a hole or break near the connection point as that would get some stress on it with movement.

if there were a break or hole, you should be able to feel air blowing out of it at that point.skram wrote:The water chamber was less than half full. I hadn't added water to it for a couple of days and I never fill it more than half way as I don't seem to go through very much water.

Re: Climateline hose - how long should it last?
Fill the hose with water hold both ends up at equal height with hose full of water to both connectors -- if you have even the smallest leak you'll see it right away. My cat got snuggled up with warm hose and I didn't realize her claws had poked little holes in the hose, so when I was cleaning it and held it up in the manner described above I was astounded how many places on the hose the water was spewing forth!! There went a fifty dollar heated hose! Cat not allowed to snuggle on my hose any more
