Maybe a crazy question but tired eyes

Post by Finnc » Sun Oct 05, 2014 12:48 pm

I have been on cpap for about three weeks. The first week was a joke, I woke up every morning with it off. Second week was better. This week has been much better and while I feel rested mentally and physically my eyes are heavy all the time and hurt. I honestly don't remember this feeling from before but I felt horrible everywhere so I don't know that I would have noticed this. I have pretty thick skin so feel free to tell me if I am crazy and it's not related. I just can't think of anything else that would make my eyes so heavy and tired feeling.

Is there air blowing in your eyes? Yes even from nasal pillows you can get air in your eyes, plus it can come from inside - your nose has a passage for tears to flow from the eyes to the nasal passages, it is not supposed to be a two way street but it is for some. You would need to see an ophthalmologist to have it dealt with.

Secondly - for some people after your mind adjusts to this therapy and accepts it, you will sleep deeper and want/crave more sleep as you body repairs years of damage.

I have thought air was blowing in my eyes but while awake I don't feel it. I do love the sleep I am getting now though so I may just be craving it more of it as well.

I'm one of the "two-way street" people. PAP therapy causes some pressure behind my eyes which I feel when I'm using the machine, and my eyes feel a little more sore during the day than before I started on the machine. I also look more puffy around the eyes when I first get up in the morning than I did before PAP. Others have mentioned the puffy eyes on the forum.

So no, you're not crazy.

While not a requirement, "Thick Skin" can be useful even here, sometimes so is body armor too. Welcome, you might try a sleep mask, I know, another thing to get moved around, as a test. Jim

Maybe it's your sinuses, --more likely unrelated to cpap, but still possible.
Check with your doctor on a possible sinus infection.
It is a common source of" heavy eyes".

I didn't either until one day when I had a migraine and a wet cloth on my eyes. When I lifted it I could feel a distinct coldness happening on certain areas of the wet.
