Where are the new CPAP models?

Post by fasttimes » Wed Sep 24, 2014 12:05 pm

I currently have a Resmed S9. While I'm somewhat happy with the device, I'm eligible for a new machine. I'm somewhat surprised that the technology hasn't changed much in the last few years.

Are there any rumors about new machines coming down the pipe? I was hoping for machines with wifi and smartphone capabilities.

Appreciate your thoughts

How exactly would you want your phone to interact with your machine?

A wireless, wifi or Bluetooth interface with every function planned for the next versions of Sleepyhead.
It might as well include a full remote control function as well.

I don't think even the new AirSense supports those interfaces. Other than some Oximeter's, what CPAP machines do? also, given the current state of many medical devices security issues, I would not necessarily think this would be a good idea. The idea that someone close to your house could play with the settings on your machine, doesn't sound like fun.

The AirSense Bi-Level machine has not yet been released.
Current Settings PS 4.0 over 10.6-18.0 (cmH2O) - Resmed S9 VPAP Auto w/h5i Humidifier - Quattro Air FFM

Put your equip in your Signature - SleepyHead v1.0.0-beta-1

Which S9 machine do you have? What does it say above the power button? There's a new AirSense 10 line from ResMed, but it's only a minor improvement over the S9.

Please fill in your equipment on your profile.

None of the machines have wifi. I think if any have bluetooth, it's an extra cost option. Some have cell modems, but you have to pay a monthly fee for the service, and the data collected is much less than the SD card has. Some of these allow you to look at some of the data via cell phone, but it's very much dumbed down for the patient.

I want to be able to lay in bed in the waking hour, open my iPad and run SleepyHead pulling the night's data wirelessly from the machine. Right now I pop out the SD card and bring it downstairs and plug it into my laptop PC. I ask myself how many insertion/ejection cycles the machine's SD card slot are rated, maybe a thousand?

Ok, right now my machine has an expensive Bluetooth adapter available so in theory I could do it today but SleepyHead is Mac and PC compatible but not iPad. When Mark finishes the 1.0 release I hope he considers the mobile device as the next platform for SleepyHead.

I was told that resmed will have a cloud based sytem for the airsense models and that it is coming out in nov of 2014.
Of course, this is what I was told. We will have to wit and see if this info was correct. I got the info from a top rep at the medical device company that issued me my airsense.
In the me time, I will try and download the rescn and use that, but that will take me a few more weeks at the least. I need some serious downtime to read how to do it.
I am sleeping much better now a days since I went back on therapy.
My ahi is around 3 and my central have gone down below or at .3
However, my pressure hs risen to 15 the last two nights and my ahi has gone up to 3.5
I wish I could have less pressure and my ahi was lower but I have to admit, my worse night with my new cpap is still better than my best night used to be.
I think to myself, "wow, if I needed a pressure of 15 then if didn't use my machine I would have one of those horrible nights of sleep. The kind I used to wake up to. Cranky, tired, pissed off. And maybe only getting 5 hours of total chaotic sleep.
Not anymore.......I feel refreshed.
And it will only get better once I learn how to add rescan to my wife's laptop or my iPad

Unless they've changed the data they send, the data available on any cloud system will be very limited vs. the SD card data. Probably just nightly average AHI numbers, maybe nightly leak. I suspect they get charged by the byte and they scrimp on the data they send.

It's like driving a car with the windows iced up and just a patch in front of the driver scraped clean.
