Can I return all of my supplies and change companies
Can I return all of my supplies and change companies
I am not at all happy with me DME. First they substituted the CPAP machine my doctor ordered then the antenna on the modem was broken when I got home and they sold me a cheap chin strap that wont stay on and is falling apart after just two weeks. I just found a DME that just joined my insurance network. Can I just adk my doctor to send them the order and take everything back?
Re: Can I return all of my supplies and change companies
What type of equipment was written on the script and what equipment was substituted? Or was the script generic with no brand mentioned?

Re: Can I return all of my supplies and change companies
The script called for the Remstar Auto A-flex with a modem. They gave me the ResMed S9 with no modem and told me my doctor didn't prescribe one. A few days later when the doctor found out he called them and I got the new machine the next day. Of course the antenna was broken when I took it out of the bag. He also ordered the Respironics Remstar Pro Chinstrap. They gave some piece of crap that is falling apart already. I found it for sale on Amazon for $6.00.
Re: Can I return all of my supplies and change companies
I'm also wondering why they charged me for the mask (Airfit P10 Nasal pillows) and the headgear separately when the headgear comes included with the nasal pillows. I thought unbundling was illegal.
Re: Can I return all of my supplies and change companies
Believe it or not, that is actually standard practice for insurance billing. You probably also got billed separately for the nasal pillows that also come with the mask, the humidifier chamber that comes packaged with the humidifier, etc.drwtn wrote:I'm also wondering why they charged me for the mask (Airfit P10 Nasal pillows) and the headgear separately when the headgear comes included with the nasal pillows. If anyone has good reason they shouldn't bill that way, please let me know. I can get a new mask every 3 months, but my DME made it sounds like I would have to pay for the headgear myself, because it is only every 6 months.

Re: Can I return all of my supplies and change companies
You can change DME's but probably won't be able to return any supplies. You can change DME's for future supplies. If your machine is a rental, then you probably can return it and rent it from the new DME. You should check with your insurance company before taking any action & they will tell you what is possible, especially regarding any rental equipment.drwtn wrote:I am not at all happy with me DME. Craig-tx...they said they only bill for the headgear when its time. If you have insurance then they shouldn't be billing you either.

.contact the new dme and talk to them. They should be able to request any documents they need, tho you should already have the documents.drwtn wrote:I am not at all happy with me DME. Them lying to you is a problem but to tell you the truth I would not want a modem on my machine for any reason. That gives everyone but you access to your data, how nice.drwtn wrote:The script called for the Remstar Auto A-flex with a modem. Re: Can I return all of my supplies and change companies
Yes you can.
I would advise writing down, in itemization format, all of the returned medical equipment on the 'Return Rental Agreement' form. Include everything, down to the power cord and carrying case. Include that you are returning everything In working order and every item is clean.
Also, state on the form that you asked the DME employee, at the moment of return, to check that everything is currently in working order, you offered to wait while this task was done, but the DME employee refused. Get a copy of the amended form for your records. If they refuse to make you a copy, use your I-phone or I-pad and take a picture of the final form with date and time noted.
The DME will not want you writing this on their form but who cares. You now have an itemized list of returned items, stated they were in working order, and every piece of equipment was clean. And, importantly, they accepted the amended form from you.
Ethics, integrity, and honesty are non-existent at some of these establishments. I wish there was better oversight.
Some DME's will go out of their way to bring frustration into your life. Turn the tables on them and keep the awful DME's from getting any further business.
