Talking while sleeping and mask seal
Talking while sleeping and mask seal
I've been told I talk while I sleep, and I find the biggest issue I have with leaks is at the sides of my mouth. I'm a mouth breather and use a FFM. I think moving my mouth while I sleep, combines with my face blowing open under the pressure is what is causing most of my leaks. Anyone with similar issues, and suggestions?

Re: Talking while sleeping and mask seal
Could be. Are you using mask liners? They can help with leaks, and you might try taping your mouth shut to see if that helps with moving your mouth. Paper first aid tape would be the easiest to take off in the morning and one strip across your lips in the middle should be enough. I've never needed to tape my mouth, but I know that other posters have tried it successfully for mouth breathing.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.

Could you expand just a little about why you are a mouth breather?
I am one also and my nasal passages close up when I lie down to sleep.
Perhaps you suffer from jaw drop which may be improved by the use of a soft cervical collar.
That could improve your leaks.

Re: Talking while sleeping and mask seal
I have used mask liners before, and while they are more comfortable then bare silicone, they tend to allow the mask to slide around my face more, and make it easier for the corners of my mouth to slip under the seal.
I have narrow nasal passages, and always breathe through my mouth, even while awake. I have been like this as long as I remember. More then 2-3 breaths through my nose and if don't feel like I'm getting enough oxygen. I just can't get the volume I need through my nose.

Re: Talking while sleeping and mask seal
When I first put on my mask and start the machine, I open my mouth wider than I normally do and then adjust the bottom seal as needed until I can do so without any leaks. Basically, I just have to pull the seal downward a little. Then I am good for most, if not all of the night.
I can talk with no problems. It is muffled a bit, but the cats can still hear me call them

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

With that as a problem, have you considered an Oracle 2 mask?alpha752 wrote: ... I have narrow nasal passages, and always breathe through my mouth, even while awake. You can read about my experiences in the link below.

That's exactly what I do with my Quattro.
