Callie crossed the rainbow bridge on Monday. She totally quit eating and vet's assumption was that she had terminal renal failure. Thank you everyone that helped me work through this painful decision.
RIP my precious.

Rest in peace, Callie. You will be missed I know. VikingGnome, I have been where you are many times. It is never easy but, in the end we do the best and most loving thing for our special friends. I know you will never forget her, and the joy and happiness she brought you. I am thinking of you.

Thanks for sharing, Viking Gnome. It helped me to work through my 16 year-old cat's death. Also,my cat just completely stopped eating, even if I tried a syringe of diluted prescribed food.

The week of his death, I happened to be reading "The Art of Hearing Heartbeats" by Jan-Phillipp Sendker and found the following comforting:
"How long did it take you to get over it? "Over it? I'm not sure I would put it that easy. When we get over something, we move on, we put it behind us. Do we leave the dead behind or do we take them with us? I think we take them with us. they accompany us. The remain with us, if in another form. We have to learn to live with them and their deaths."

RIP Callie. It's hard, I know, I have lost two cats and two dogs in the last ten years. It's something that you never really get over. Take time to grieve. We are all here for you.

You need to let her go. Don't let suffer, and don't deprive yourself of your own meds for your own health. Go to a shelter and adopt another cat, one that will benefit much more from you love and care, and one that you can better afford to care for.

I won't be getting another pet. I have my precious Carson (icon). He's just 4.5 years old and hopefully have another 5 good years ahead. The longevity of my cats makes getting another a unrealistic plan. Living 15-20 years, I would be 80 (yikes) when it is 20. I don't believe in acquiring pets that could OUTLIVE me.

My sister recently gave her parrot to a bird sanctuary. Parrots can live 75 years and it was only 25. My sister and husband are retiring this year.

Rest in peace Callie. VikingGnome I agree with your logic on not getting another pet. I have stopped taking ANY more pets, I don't want them to outlive me. I will foster in certain circumstances, but only foster for groups that are still committed to finding a forever home for any pet I foster. I don't want to foster regularly, but will for a very few groups in my area when they are in a real pinch. My problem with fostering is I get attached.

VG you are in my prayers tonite.

Jen
