I am a Techy/Sparky from Australia and have learn't this from checking out the workings of the Resmed 12V / 24V convertor wiring adaptor for around $100.
Please take notice of this advice!!!!
The centre pole of the DC input needs to the 12V / 24V input to the Resmed S8 machines need to be negative otherwise a fault and damage will be generated inside the S8 CPAP machine.
Centre pins on supply leads on most equipment are positive, but not Resmed's 12V / 24V S8 convertor.
There should at least be a warning label on these devices but maybe this is a "money raising exercise" by Resmed to force you into buying the correctly polarised Resmed convertor before or after you have damaged the S8 unit.
I bought the proper Resmed 12V / 24V convertor after investigating ways to save a dollar or two off the Resmed retail price and have had no problems hooking it up to my standby 80AH Gel Cel batttery.
Blackouts are no problems unlesss there are storms accompanying them.
if no storms are anywherere nearby just leave the charger plugged in and turned on charging the backup batteries as normal.
Unplug the charger at the wall if you want to be super careful!!!
Never just switch the charger off, unplug it and leave it about six inches away from the power socket!
When storms are around just unplug the mains battery charger and plug back it back in again after the dangerous storms have left the area to re-charge the backup batteries.
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE OF WHAT I HAVE SAID HERE OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!!!

It's actually about 50/50 as to what polarity the centre pin is with barrel connectors across the whole range of commercial equipment that uses themSparky Marky 1617 wrote:Centre pins on supply leads on most equipment are positive

All Re$Med products are as proprietary as they can possibly make them.
The same holds true for other companies, but most are not quite as aggressive.
I love being able to plug my Intellipap into the cigarette lighter of our car.
I am especially amused by the irony.

Standard power standards are one of my high requirements, that's the main reason Resmed would be my last choice in xpap treatment, their sales practices only put the iceing on their cake. I beleave they make a good machine but I won't be buying one for the above reasons, now main in China, one more reason. Jim
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!
