Eye-Fi SD card with WiFi

Post by sleepio » Wed Oct 02, 2013 2:41 pm

Is there any chance this product can be used to obtain sleep data without removing the card from the xpap machine?

Radio Shack has them on clearance ($10.48) -click on "Find it Nearby", if anyone wants to try it. I'm gonna see if a local RS has one in stock after dinner.

I don't see a place in sleepyhead where you can access a network resource, maybe this sd card needs to be added on your computer as a 'network place'.

That's really clever! Didn't know a product like this existed. Guess if you set the correct network information it should work fine. My only concern would be the RF from the network transmission. I'm a bit concerned about sleeping next to a live wifi device right next to my head (presume your machine is next to you when sleeping). Never used one but wonder if you can turn down the tx power from the unit or if it's factory set. Yes, it's a pita yanking the card out every day!

Found this:

Might have to get the pro version if you're going to use it on a computer, but should work up to 45 feet on a handheld device.

We've been over this in the past and I'm afraid it's not going to work for two reasons:
1) The Eye-Fi card can't be re-formatted, and therefore can't be made to "look like" the card the machine expects
2) In all likelihood, the machine won't provide power to the card unless it is actively writing to it. This allows you to eject the card without having to ask the machine first.

That said I don't recall if anyone ever TRIED it. You could search the forum though.

Yes, good points.

After perusing eye-fi messageboards, it seems their proprietary software will not even be able to see files other than photos.

I tried it, and you're correct - it won't work. Your blower can save data to it just fine - but their software is written to ignore the presence of any files other than .jpg or .mpg - unless you pay extra, then it will also do other digital photo formats. Your XPAP, however, does not save any files in digital photo formats, so they still won't appear on any file transfer list you manage to bring up. Too bad, because the idea is great, and if it just simply opened up a file transfer (like ftp) from box to box, I wouldn't have a paperweight that can only hold down a couple postage stamp-sized pieces of paper.

p.s. It ain't that great as a photo transfer device, either - see above "unless you pay extra".

What about an sd card extension cable? Should be able to plug this in and push the back cover on without too many issues. Might make the card a bit more accessable.
