So if you are older and have lower expectations please don't post on my threads. You enable bad attitudes on the part of doctors who have attitudes towards older patients. You may have put yourself out to pasture, but I am not going along with you.

Hmm, altho I'm not sure I understand the intent of your post, I want to tell you that I am considerably older than you are. Maybe what you experience when you see your doctors is your own bad attitude. Not one of my doctors have "attitudes" towards older patients that I sense in any way. If I did I'd be out of that office in a heart beat ( ). In fact, I think they admire me and my desire to be proactive when it comes to my health. Hell... I'm not going out to that pasture for a long time. It's obvious most of us don't have a clue why you started this thread.

The OP sounds like my parents. After they retired they would come and visit in their RV in September. They would bitch about all "those seniors" in the campgrounds. I would say "but you are a senior too" they would say "Yes but ....We are NOT like THEM!"

Actually, my mom was like that. But I saw it as a positive since I feel it kept her acting young and alive as she felt many people she knew in her age group had stopped living and were waiting to die.

She drove until voluntarily stopping at 89. And had a very sharp and clear mind until the last year of her life.

In my opinion, as along as she didn't convey the superiority attitude to other seniors, I saw nothing wrong with that approach. And she definitely wasn't like this OP in any way shape, or form.

I AM A "speshul snoughflayke"!

My hubby and I are absolutely right in this persons age range. I am 60 and my hubby is 63. Trust me, most of us baby boom kids don't think of ourselves as old but sometimes reality comes crashing in on me and it pisses me off. The good news is that we are usually a bit wiser and better at getting things done with brain power instead of pure muscle but the bad news is that the only option to getting older is to go ahead and die and that isn't in my current plan.

By the way my hubby that I mentioned is a working field service diesel mechanic and in the last 2 months has been offered 3 full time field service positions. He is in great shape and never slows down. He is a young 63 and very fit. Me on the other hand.....not so much

I have to admit that I'm the same as your parents. I "think" I look much younger than my friends who are the same age and I most certainly have a better attitude! And, you know what, my friends think the same thing about themselves. It's true, we all want to be different/special. I agree with 49er... that's not a bad thing.

Anyway, I can tell you with all honesty that I look much younger than my X!!!

On the inside I am the same girl I have always been and I forget how old I am getting until I look in the mirror. The other day I was watching people going across a river on a zip line and was thinking how much I would love to do that and how much I missed going to amusement parks and riding the rides. I have aged very little on the inside. The outside is another story. I am in a lot of pain. I can't get a doctor to even try to treat me. I can't take pain medicine so all I have is a Tens and it helps but it doesn't do near enough to control the pain. I am now just sitting around like someone much older. I am 65 and my mother in law can run circles around me. My Mother lived to be 96. She was very active until she was 89. She fell when a man accidently knocked her down at the fitness center and she broke her pelvis bone. My husband loves riding his motorcycle but I can't ride with him anymore. I would love to hop on the back and go across the country with a pup tent. I just sit and watch the cob webs grow now. I don't want to go out to pasture but when you are in pain you just don't have a choice. I don't think anyone would choose the pasture but it just happens.

I agree with this. At 51, I get the "well, you are getting older" when I complain/comment about some of my issues. Just because I am 51 doesn't mean what I am experiencing is due to age, NOT my disease. Most people my age do NOT have the problems that I have, so saying that to me is insulting.

That's what I took from the OP's post. How many people/doctors blame things on age when there is possibly another culprit. And when we accept that it's just age, we lose the opportunity for a possible fix.
