For goodness sakes, it's a wide-open forum! It is not a market. No one gains economically by doing thorough analysis and spending time and effort providing solid advice. So people just shoot from the hip to be saying something.Evidently with some of the more addle minded folks here
This is such a general statement as to be worthless except to start a conversation with the doctor (or another doctor) about exactly what the hell he meant.I have "enlarged tissue in the back of my throat,"

When the ENT removed her tonsils, they were puss filled sponges. The Dr. indicated that there was no way that antibiotics were going to treat that problem.
So I cannot help with the OP's original question, how the surgury will affect APAP's ability to detect precursor events (snores, etc). I can say that my wife snored like a sailor prior to the surgury. And after the tonsils and adnoids were removed her snoring is much quiter. I think the Dr. did trim the upper pallet as well, but I don't remember for sure.
Good luck with the Tonsilectomy. My wife's infections have been gone for 15 years since the surgury and I hope yours will be as well.

Suddenly Worn Out wrote:I did not go to this guy because I wanted my OSA cured with surgery. I went to this ENT because I was formally diagnosed with a tonsil infection recently and have been having recurring ear, nose and throat infections for years. This ENT (and many like them in the USA) also does the OSA surgery and I am wanting to make sure any tonsil removal surgery done for the purposes of preventing future tonsillitis will not screw up my AutoPap's ability to detect obstructive events.
Tonsillectomy, NOT UPPP!!!

If you're into the financial support of surgeons, get a tracheostomy and that will definitely cure your sleep apnea.
I guess some people just have more dollars than sense.
I didn't read the PDF but IMO, the only reason for any "ectomy" is gangrene.
I guess some reason that if someone's immune systems isn't preventing infections, and the infections are numerous, debilitating, and expensive, sometimes the knife can help out better than the meds.DreamStalker wrote: . . . the only reason for any "ectomy" is gangrene . . .
One of my ex's had it done because he kept getting strep throat amongst other things and the antibiotics were starting to get both ineffective and dangerous. The tonsillectomy stopped them dead in their tracks. For the next 5 years that I knew him there was no recurrence and he was not required to eat antibiotics at least once a month.DreamStalker wrote:I didn't read the PDF but IMO, the only reason for any "ectomy" is gangrene.

Since most of your assumptions lately have been wrong, maybe you want to think twice about continuing to make them.I assumed most of the regular posters here would be educated to realize that.
Good luck with basing your surgery decisions on the "first thing that pops into (your) brain". You seem to be wrong more often than not. When I think "OSA surgery," first thing that pops into my brain is "UPPP."
Next time take a second to google "tonsillectomy and apnea" before posting such embarrassing drivel and calling people who clearly know more than you "addle minded".Evidently with some of the more addle minded folks here, that I thought were not so addle minded, a tonsillectomy is done for OSA!!! I did my research before having a tonsillectomy (and pharyngoplasty) and didn't base my decisions on wild guesses, fears, and "the first thing that popped into my brain". Trying to save you the trouble of doing similar research is clearly a waste of my time.
