Temazepam
Temazepam
Hello,
So I tell my Dr that Im still having trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep. I got a prescription for "Temazepam" I'm afraid it might make my apnea worse and Ill have events and choke and stuff. or am I just being paranoid? Drugs scare me. Espessly seditives.

Re: Temazepam
At normal doses most people shouldn't have worsening apnea with it, although it could in some people. For me at least it actually increases the arousal threshold so I get a better quality night of sleep. Just keep an eye on your data, worst case scenario your ahi goes up so you stop taking it, no biggie.

Ok thanks:)

Re: Temazepam
If you take temazepam (restoril), you will lose REM sleep.

Re: Temazepam
The last post made me curious and I found this on that other site.
"Restoril, also known as temazepam, is a short acting benzodiazepine that differs from the other benzodiazepines such as Xanax (alprazolam).
Restoril is indicated for insomnia, Xanax is indicated for anxiety. Restoril's half-life is about 8 hours, where Xanax is much, much longer, since Xanax has active metabolites, and Restoril does not. Restoril is the shortest acting available benzo for sleep in the U.S. It comes in 7.5 mg, 15 mg, 22.5 mg and 30 mg. Only in the higher doses like 30 mg does it interfere with REM sleep. In fact, when 7.5 mg was compared to placebo, subjects stayed in each sleep stage the same amount of time.
Toxicologist here, so I do know what I am talking about."

That is interesting. Any idea what effect on REM Xanax has in relation to this particular source? I know I could "google" but was interested what this particular site had to say and if one or the other was considered more appropriate to take at bedtime.
I take .25 xanax up to 3x daily (for anxiety) and always take 1mg at night (for insomnia).

Re: Temazepam
Thanks Johnny. I guess that quote is the 'meat' of the content via that page. I'll have to dig a little deeper. I'm just trying to figure out if it would be better for me to suggest to the doctor in taking the xanax during the daytime only as needed and switching to a dose of "Restoril (temazepam)" for the nighttime insomnia.Johnny1959 wrote:This is where info came from............

Re: Temazepam
Maybe not Johnny. I just posted that link as an alternative position to the "blanket statement" Johnny made.
As I said, I was curious. I got my answer so I didn't read much further.
It requires further reading for anyone taking it or considering taking it.
