Picking up my first machine on friday !!!

Post by TLB » Tue Jun 26, 2012 11:34 am

This has been a long trip...but I have hit the next check point...On friday after noon I go and pick up my cpap machine, my choices are Resmed S9 auto OR Respronics System one...any thoughts? I am leaning towards the S9...Also my husband is deploying for 10 monthes ( and already away from home training) ...so I think it will be nice to be able to adjust and get used to the new nighttime me while he is gone.

Hi there
1) I vote for the S9. Make sure it says "Autoset" by the on/off switch, not "escape" or "escape auto".
2) Good luck with your new Cpap endevour on Friday night!

I also vote for the S9 Auto, but then I'm partial to it since I own one It's been wonderful so far.

Congrats on getting to this pit stop on the CPAP road trip LOL. The trip can either be a leisurely drive through the countryside or a traffic jam in a major city, but the more informed you are, the easier it will be from this point forward.

I had a very quick adjustment to adding in the new "bed partner" into our routine. My husband has been 100% supportive and very patient while I had my not so good nights. I think if I had to adjust on my own while he was away for any reason, that would be kind of cool too.

There are many fine folks here that can answer any question you can think of, so don't hesitate to turn here for help should you need it. Their experiences, knowledge and general trouble shooting tactics can break down any issue and tackle it head on with you. You'll have a strong support system here 24/7.

Good luck on Friday! I'm sure you'll do just fine.

the s9 Auto and s9 Elite are both full data capable machine. The later is a CPAP only.

I agree you don't want the Escape.

awesome guys ,...I was leaning towards the S9 ...so it looks that that is what I will be getting. Along with a full face mask, I am a mouth open sleeper and not sure I want to add a chin strap along with everything else lol
can't wait to get this started and can't wait to feel better, I am pretty excited, does that sound strange LOL, hopefully I can keep the excitment level and my attudude level up through out the trip.

TLB,

I am new here also and pick my machine up tomorrow from the good ol' DME. I have read, read and re-read most of the posts here and hopefully I have educated myself enough to go in there tomorrow and make a smooth transaction. These folks here are good people and have already helped me squash most of my concerns with getting the correct machine and not getting "taken" by the DME.

I too am going to try to get the S9 Autoset or the S9 Elite. I have spoken at length with the people at BCBS and they seem to be supportive and point blank told me today, to "go in there and tell them that you have done your research and give you the machine you want".

I am hopeful all will go well tomorrow.

Good luck on Friday...

Best,

Mrghos

The autoset can do cpap. The cpap can't do auto.

Get the auto unless you know what treatment you'll need over the next few years.

OK ...update on my first 3 nights ....I think I did AWESOME!!! first night 8.3 hours good mask fit 0.4 AHI( felt pretty good..great mood all day).....Second night 7.3 hours good mask fit 0.2 AHI.(not as good of mood and a little tired but not a bad day)...third night 7.2 hours good mask fit 0.1 AHI ( the day just started but feel pretty good)
Still getting daily headaches but I am not being very good about taking my Gabapentin as priscribed ( going to try and get this going again, just hate having to take 200mg three X a day, and I forget a lot of the time)
I do have all the data downloaded to sleepyhead but not sure how to transfer the data here, that will be my next trick....have my first appt with a SLEEP Dr (my neurologist is the one that started me on this journey) this afternoon.
thanks for all your help guys and keep the good energy flowing for each other !!!!!

TLB: I am so envious!
I would have loved the Quattro FX if only it fit my face.

I suspect your doctor nags you about this, but I understand that stopping Gabapentin abruptly can be really bad. I know you're forgetting, not stopping, but be careful.

I hope your doctor also warned about side effects. I'd watch them really carefully too. CPAP may change your "metabolic balance" and change the way the other drugs effect you.
