S8 Vantage Detailed Menu

Post by SleepyQuilter » Thu Apr 06, 2006 8:05 pm

I have just finished reading the manual to my APAP S8 Vantage. I had my session with my RT today for a brief tutorial. I like her a lot already as well as her company. They have given me just what I asked for to begin with without any insurance problems. Halleluja. Now I can begin treatment. I can tell you right now I will be one of you who follows my progress and prints out stuff, etc. I want to use the SmartStart feature of the machine and know this would not affect my settings. I was dismayed to discover that she set the menu to Standard rather than Detailed.
I would like to know how to change this, as I am a medical professional that knows better than to mess with the settings for pressure, etc, but want to satisfy my curiosity about what the machine is set to do in case I would like to ask her to change something over time.
I also would like to know if the, for instance, SmartStart is enabled, what setting the EPR is at and so on, just for my own knowledge. I have my sewing machine codes from my dealer, for instance, to see how many hours I have used the machine and other data people normally do not get to see. I have never changed a thing and do not intend to change anything myself on this either, but may want to ask the RT about changes perhaps, after I have tried the machine out.
Would ANYONE be willing to tell me how to change just one thing on the machine and that is, how to set it to the detailed menu option? I know this is probably a combination of holding down keys, like on the sewing machine, but I do not believe in playing around with expensive equipment. Thanks in advance and wish me luck tonight on finally getting a LITTLE sleep?

I can't answer your question, but I've been looking for someone on this site that had this machine. It is the one my DME is wanting to give to me and I didn't know anything about it. I had 'sold' myself on the Remstar. I would be really interested to know why you chose this machine over the RemStar. And I wasn't sure from the literature whether or not the SmartCard type data was accessible without optional software and cables to connect to the computer. That stuff is beyond what little computer knowledge I have right now.

My DME is also telling me this is the only machine suitable for camping-type traveling, staying in places without power. I'm not sure how it differs from the RemStar in this ability, as well. Do you know?

Thanks a bunch for any information.

Your DME is feeding you a sales pitch for the machine they want to sell. Not that there's anything wrong with the ResMed S8 Vantage. It's a fine machine. ResMed makes excellent machines. There's nothing second-class about having a ResMed machine vs a Respironics machine, imho. In fact, if I were going to bet, I'd bet on ResMed as manufacturing the better quality machines between those two mfgrs. But it's sure not the only one (or even necessarily the best one) for "camping-type traveling, staying in places without power."

Features that one manufacturer or another has built in to their machines -- C-Flex here, EPR there, what can or can't be enabled in auto mode, ramp in Auto mode for PB machines but not the others, seeing some details via the display window in ResMed machines, "smart start" available in some but not the PB, how each one's integrated humidifier works, size, weight, and even how we like or don't like the software -- are often what tip some of us toward one manufacturer's machine or another's.

But for quality of the way the machines are built...again, I'd place my bet on ResMed. That said, for other reasons I use the PB 420E auto as my primary machine, and the Respironics REMstar Auto with C-Flex as my backup machine. (And I have a ResMed Spirit that I could be using, if I wanted to. LOL!!) All three brands give me good treatment and I feel equally well rested in the morning after using any of them.

You've got a very, very good machine Linda B. Even if your DME misrepresented the comparison with other machines for camping/travel/places with no power. Or maybe he/she meant the best one of the machines they happen to carry.
