Thanks, Uncle Bob. I was feeling insecure when it seemed you had missed my post of Johnny's statements the page before.

But that which bears repeating often bears repeating again and repeating again--so it's cool.

Two member types I try my best not to reflect (because I dislike those tendencies in myself) are the Xenophobe and the Impostor.

A Xenophobe "will mount a furious attack if a Newbie has the temerity to make critical observations about the forum's social dynamics, or questions its prevailing opinions." -- http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warrio ... ophobe.htm

An Impostor "fakes it to lend weight to his arguments, or simply to amuse himself." -- http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warrio ... postor.htm

I have been guilty of both in the distant past; I posted under the name "who" for a while when I got my tender newbie feelings hurt during a time of medical problems. Experienced posters in this forum helped train me to do better. And I appreciate it. However, those bad tendencies are still with me even though I don't act on them. I have to continue to fight that about myself. I think those tendencies, common though they are, are negative enough to be worthy of being fought within myself.

The rest of my bad tendencies in the forum, I just live with.

I use myself as an example not simply because I am self-absorbed (as the number of posts in this thread attest to); I do so as a way to point out tendencies that others may see in themselves in this thread too. I guess I dig the clumsy metaphor. I think that Roster became a multiple Imposter in order to promote his political agenda ( http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warrio ... alista.htm ) and that many of us bristle a bit too much when new ones make suggestions about ways of doing things when they don't yet understand how this forum has worked over the years and why it is as it is.

2 cents.

So you are going to stay out of political discussions.

But you just can't resist one more political volley on your way out:

NateS wrote:
"Censorship" is the cry that was repeatedly raised here, and which is synonymous with an alleged denial of free speech.

"Censorship is the suppression of speech or other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient to the general body of people as determined by a government, media outlet, or other controlling body.

That is OK with me. You can stay out, stay in, drop in and out, choose your battles, choose your refuge.

Definitely see you around. Do remember I consider whining about your insurance company or Medicare not covering something to be a political comment.
