Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
I keep pulling my CPAP unit off the nightstand in the middle of the night when I turn over in my sleep. I have put some pillows around the night stand so when it happens again maybe the CPAP unit won't get damaged. I am thinking about connecting two 6 ft. hoses together and clamp the junction to my bed frame so it does not happen again. Any other suggestions or comments?

Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
I have a piece of soft rubber mat material; you can buy it by the yard or pre-packaged in home stores. I think its primary use is for the lining of the bottoms of cupboards where you put your glassware. I cut a piece a little bit larger than the base of my machine and it does not move at all, ever. The rubber grips the wood surface of my night stand, and the cpap won't slide on it at all.
You will feel the hose pulling due to the resistance if you pull too far, but the cpap won't move or fall off the table (unless you were to give it a really hard yank).

Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
I used to position my Zeo in the path of my machine. The alarm raised by the clock falling to the floor would wake me up before I pulled the CPAP off. Two notes: my bedroom at the time was carpeted, the Zeo was not harmed by falling a metre. These days, with a laminate floor, a futon, and an end table, I position my machine behind my head, where hose movement is far less likely to cause a fall.

Did you know that there are 10 foot hoses available to use?
Also many people use some sort of hose management system even with 6 foot hoses that are available for purchase or even make their own.
There are all sorts of ready made hose management systems available to keep the hose elevated and lessen movement when turning over.

Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
What about a night table with an open drawer? My cpap machine is lower (just about a foot off the floor).
Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
I put mine in the nightstand drawer. my night stand is tall and I did not want to risk the felines messing with it on the floor. added bonus, it cant fall out and I can close it up in the drawer as well.
Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
I have pulled mine off the nightstand before. Did some rearranging. I use the rubber like shelf liner, cut a piece bigger than my machine and humidifier and that gives some resistance. I also took advice from another member who places his lamp between him and the cpap machine. That way if you pull too hard on the hose, the machine has a chance to meet the resistance from the lamp before it comes off the nightstand. It works for me. Twice so far I have pulled the lamp down onto me and woke myself up but cpap machine was still on the nightstand! Some people place their machine on a small stepstool on the floor.

Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
I found a copper pipe fitting in the work shop to use to join two 6 ft hoses together. I used a large spring clamp to attach it to the lower edge of the headboard. I tested by moving all around my king size bed and I get plenty of reach on the hose. I tugged on it several times and it does not move out of the clamp. I will try it out tonight and see how it does.

Our fishing poles and scrunchies suspend our hoses up over our heads.

Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
I am impressed with the lengths people will go to get a good therapy happening. I know the feeling of exhilaration when you get a good night with minimal noise, the mask fitting properly and not being tangled in hoses. It is heavenly. I couldn't sleep soundly if I was worried about yanking the machine off the table.
I hope you have a great sleep tonight. It sounds like you solved the problem.

The bigger concern with pulling the CPAP to the floor is water from the humidifier getting into the electronics when it is upended.

Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
Mine is now in a nightstand. It has a shelf where it sits. I used 2 thumb tacks and some wire to create a fence that stops it from "falling" when yanked.
I used to have a loft bed. It was then in a basket wired to the side of the bed.

Re: Pulling CPAP off night stand during sleep
If you can somehow clamp the hose to the table or some other immovable object, that could help.
I've successfully attached two hoses end to end with no adapter of any type. On my hoses, the rubber ends were flexible enough to stick one into the other and get a good seal. YMMV.
Some people have reported too long hoses can mess up flex, EPR, bilevel, autopressure, and/or AHI measurement to some degree. The machine is trying to measure pressure and flow at the mask, and the long hose may screw this up a bit.
