I slept

Post by hecate » Thu Feb 23, 2006 9:46 am

Last night, after 5 sleepless nights with CPAP, I finally slept using CPAP for 8 hours! I feel good, I can't say I have unbounded energy yet, but it is better. I now need a cure for my lazyness though!

My partner didn't have such a good night of it though. At one point she woke me up because she couldn't hear me, nor was I tossing and turning. I was just sleeping so soundly she had to keep listening for me to make sure I was still alive. I think thats something she may get used to though!

I think i'll keep my swift now. I can sleep on both sides and on my back. I can even put my glasses on to read while connected up.

Thanks
Liz

Liz, if that's your worst problem then you are doing very well indeed! Congratulations.

I found that once I added a heated hose to the mix that I was sleeping so soundly that I wasn't moving at all in the night. Some mornings this would cause me to wake up with my lower back muscles seized up and screaming in pain as soon as I moved.

OTOH, I was sleeping so well that I now have more energy though the day (once my back unkinks) and am slowly whittling away at the pile of chores that went undone for many years before beginning xPAP.

I'd like to be able to tell you that every night will be like last night, but that wouldn't be true. Remember that even people without sleep disorders sometimes have a bad night. However you will get to a point where "bad" nights are few and far between. And, hopefully, even your worst nights with xPAP will be better than your best nights without.

Liz-

hahahah... when I got my new REMstar auto and my Swift, my wife did EXACTLY the same thing! It was so quiet she thought I DIED! (again) hahahah... then she heard me breathing, but she said she really had to strain to hear the machine. (my old machine was pretty loud)

And you're right about sleeping positions. Some folks have a hard time on their side or stomach but I have found several comfortable positions and was surprised to be able to work out the sleeping-on-my-stomach thing.

I agree. About day 5 I slept through the night without a trip to the loo for the first time in over 10 years. I had begun to think I had severe problem that late middle-aged men develop and perhaps I do (being a man in late middle-age) but not as severe as it seemed. Since then (26 days now) I have only gotten up twice and it wasn't urgent but probably because of a leak - no pun intended (or perhaps it was).

But regardless, I have had better nights and worse nights but most nights I am making it to 5am or later without being AWAKE awake and that is a BIG change. I think I am grateful, I am striving for gratitude.
