Yeah, I feel ya, my bad. .Not you, DD.

OK, in all fairness, I have to admit, you've excavated your case admirably. I don't always have to be right, so I'll concede you that much.
deltadave wrote:You've generated an unfounded fear
I'd read Muse-Inc's post again, slowly. .No speed-reading, OK?

And do you know what the phrase: "Tongue in cheek" means? .I'm guessing that 100% — well maybe —99% of the members here do.

deltadave wrote:I would hazard a guess that the "not labelled as APAP" settings were "AVAPS" settings
You've guessed correctly, sir. .Or perhaps read my link to Respironic's website.

deltadave wrote:bad-mouthed BI and belittled and insulted the staff
Or not.
Mike6977 wrote:I think it was the night-shift RT, and she's not super familiar with the V60
One night-shift nurse or RT, not the whole staff.

And I believe if I were to email her this thread, she'd likely reply: "No, not insulted at all. Yes, I'll admit it, I'm not super familiar with the v60, I'm new, and I've got a lot of plates spinning in the air, sorry. .See ya when you come back, kinda busy right now, K?"

Most nurses are like that when you gently critique them a bit, don't feel insulted at all. .Can't say the same for most MDs.

He told his truth his way, and I'll betcha lots of people related to his story. He essentially talked about how scared he was, if you'll bother to read between the lines. That's what I got out of it anyway, and I could bet a penny most here heard it the same way.

Don't you have a sense of humor? Was it not obvious he was joking when referring to anyone in the hospital? I don't know who you are, but God forbid you should be standing over me if I was in the hospital... speaking of Godzilla!

I"m thinking maybe Godzilla is the toy the RRT who came to nebulize me when I was admitted to the Chest Pain Clinic overnight holding area was referring to. I had my S8 VPAP Auto w/me and she was amazed and intrigued w/all it could do. I took her thru the entire User and Clinicians Menu. In addtion to the compliments about the VPAP Auto she said she was ever so grateful she wasn't going to have to bring their PAP down to me as it was huge.

Let me tell you something about myself, Carl. .I'm Russian, old school, grew up dirt poor, and my alcholic father taught me that there's no pain you can't take. .His brutal "lessons" saved my life when I was camping by myself in the Ural Mountians, dead of winter.

It was dusk, freezing cold and suddenly my side began to hurt savagely, I knew something was terrible wrong, but I was hundreds of miles from civilization. .It could've been my apendix, maybe my liver, I don't know, but what whatever it was, I knew if I was to survive the night I had to take it out.

I had a few implements: a bottle of Sputnik vodka, some asprin, a lighter, and my trusted and razor sharp Wolfhaund knife, originally made by ROSarms in Zlatoust.

Image

I steeled myself for what was coming next. .Then I used the lighter to sterilize the Wolfhaund knife.

Gritting my teeth, I tighten my grasp on that knife, cut the top off the vodka bottle, took two aspirin and finished the whole bottle in one gulp.

In the morning, when I woke up, other than a bit of a hangover, I felt a whole lot better.

Yeah, that's right, that's how I roll.

Hi Slinky. .It's very possible. It's made by Respironics, and they have a wide base of distribution for their product line in hospitals all over the world.

Slinky wrote: I had my S8 VPAP Auto w/me and she was amazed and intrigued w/all it could do.
Yeah, it's freaky that a consumer level xPAP is so much more sophisticated than hospital grade. .The v60 doesn't natively record any data, btw. .Can you imagine?

Hi ems. Imho, DD has a very sharp and refined sense of humor.

And as I've said, his unpublicized generosity to some "in need" members of the board is something he never talks about.

Just reading his advanced, insightful musings on a number of highly technical xPAP issues, when my NYC sleep lab doctor won't even return my phone calls (if I want to talk to him, I have to book an appointment, months in advance), makes me very glad he — and many other xPAP veterans — are on this board.

As for why he jumped on me so hard in this thread, right after I returned from the hospital, well it's a mystery to me.

The only answer I can guess at is that he is heavily invested in Respironic's stock or something.

On a much more important note: did you see this crushing story in the NY Times?

They are planning to close the very first "Ray's Pizza" shop, opened in Little Italy since 1960.

Chest pains or not, I'm running down there to get a fat, juicy meatball, sausage and onion slice, made fresh, right in front of your face.

How does it taste? Hey, unbelievable, fuggedaboutit!

The >40 continually monitored parameters can be directly interfaced to the EMR through the RS-232 port. Or ask jedimark to add V60 to his program.

He didn't.

He was using "tongue in cheek" humor.

I guess it depends on whose tongue and cheek.

Fascinating. .Almost textbook.

Deltadave, as I'm sure you know, "intelligence" lies across a huge spectrum, like keys on a endless grand piano.

You can be, say, a brilliant clinical psychiatrist, then walk into a single's bar, and be utterly clueless as to the signals that your potential romantic partners are sending you, or the silent signals that you're sending back.

Since it's been all over the popular media in recent years, I'm also confident that you're familiar with the term "emotional intelligence".

Not having emotional intelligence isn't a crime, just as not having musical talent (a form of intelligence) isn't a crime.

That your are quite talented in your chosen field isn't in dispute.

But, from your continued posting in this thread, and your apparent inability to see what that posting is projecting to other members of this board, especially the "FOL"s (foolish old ladies, as you dismissively describe them) who do much of the grunt work here, leaves me to believe that you have bit of a deficit when it comes to emotional intelligence.

The best advice I can give right now is this:

When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

Further, V60 will soon be upgraded to include Proportional Assist Ventilation, then it will really be the cat's meow.
Mike6977 wrote:You can be, say, a brilliant clinical psychiatrist, then walk into a single's bar, and be utterly clueless as to the signals that your potential romantic partners are sending you, or the silent signals that you're sending back.
I can not grasp that concept, since I neither drink (so wouldn't go to a place like that nor associate with those kind of people) nor look for "potential romantic partners" (since I have a WFL).
Mike6977 wrote:Since it's been all over the popular media in recent years, I'm also confident that you're familiar with the term "emotional intelligence".
No I'm not. I don't do "popular media".
Mike6977 wrote:...leaves me to believe that you have bit of a deficit when it comes to emotional intelligence.
Fortunately,
  • "Not having emotional intelligence isn't a crime"; and
  • Since I ain't got any of that there "emotional intelligence" stuff, I DGAFF anyway.
Mike6977 wrote:The best advice I can give right now is this:

That's it, huh?
Mike6977 wrote:Deltadave, as I'm sure you know, "intelligence" lies across a huge spectrum, like keys on a endless grand piano.
What I know is that all human emotions run the spectrum and consequently offer an infinite number of combinations which people need to understand and accept.

The reason you're "in a hole" is that you can't.

I are what I are. If you got more EI than me, then congratuf*****lations.

Yeah, I'm letting DD hijack this thread, and the v60 seems to be fading into the distance. .So, let me bring it back to the v60.

Once you get used to it's size, the unit itself isn't the problem. .To paraphrase the Clinton's famous mantra: "It's the mask, stupid."

I can't say what other hospitals use for an xPAP mask when the patient didn't come in as a sleep-lab patient. .But this flimsy, impossible to adjust, razor-edged mask couldn't have been a worse choice.

I'm curious: have others here had similar difficulties with "hospital grade" masks?

It's amazing how even the most expensive, sophisticated hospital-grade xPAP machine can be brought to it's knees by a cheap, badly-designed mask.

As for DD, I'll stop analyzing him in this thread.

If he wishes to continue, I'll open a new thread titled: "Talk to Dr. Lecter", and we can go forward from there.
