Anyone know if it's safe to put VapoSteam into the CPAP humidifier (the liquid stuff from Vicks that you normally put in warm-mist humidifiers)? Of course, I would do it in my "backup" humidifier, not the one I use day to day. I'd also wash the thing out in the AM.
Tried putting some vapor-rub on a plate near the air inlet, but that product is designed to work best under (body) heat, so it was less than effective.
The answer is probably "no, don't do that," but figured I'd ask and see if anyone has tried and succeeded/failed with it.
I've got a bit of stuffiness going on, and I used to use vaporub for a couple of days when this happened before CPAP to help at night. I also used to put a little vaposteam into the medicine cup of a warm-mist humidifier in the room. So looking for the new alternative now that the CPAP mask is in play =)

Re: VapoSteam?
The problem is how to regulate the concentration. In a room humidifier, there is a lot of air and what you add into the humidifier water is diluted by the room air. With a xPAP humidifier, what you add is concentrated and not diluted by room air.
I am a big fan of adding a little salt to the humidifier, but I wouldn't recommend the VapoSteam. With salt I am adding about 0.2 grams of salt in 1 liter of distilled water. I add water to the humidifier tank from this 1 liter bottle. It is almost like sleeping on the beach.

No No!!!!
Get some essential oils like eucalyptus and put it on a cotton ball in front of the intake. If you have something that needs heat use a hot pad with a little saucer of it in front of the intake but don't put anything in the humidifier.

I use pursleeps "clear" when I feel stuffed up. It is designed for that purpose, within a half hour I'm good to go.

Earlier this week with the high levels of heat, humidity, and ozone and the air conditioner running long cycles, I developed some stuffiness. The neti pot, which had not been out since winter, was brought out of the cabinet and saline nasal rinses performed twice per day. This helps a good bit without resorting to drugs.TalonNYC wrote:
