CPAP machine not recording Usage correctly ?

Post by pearlr » Wed Jul 06, 2011 11:30 am

My husband has been using the S9 Elite™ CPAP Machine with EPR/ S9™ Series H5i™ Heated Humidifier with Climate Control for a few weeks now .

I noticed that sometimes the machine doesn't record the correct hours of usage for the previous night. In fact it records zero hours !! For example, he slept from 1:30 am to 6:40 am, 2 nights back and it showed Usage " 0 hours " . I have noticed this on atleast 2 instances and not sure how many more times it may not have recorded the usage correctly
Has anyone else experienced this ? What could be wrong ?

Please advice.

Unplug the machine then plug it back in. This forces the machine to reboot.
See what tomorrow shows. If it doesn't fix it call the DME you got the machine from and explain things.

Thanks Pugsy.
It would be one thing is the machine consistently didn't record correctly every single night but this one is erratic. Most of the nights it does record the usage but some nights it doesn't record correctly so I am not sure what is going on !!

From what I've been reading, the S9 machines seem to be having numerous "issues" with reporting (or not reporting) various things. Some have suggested that the machines be unplugged and "re-booted" once per week (as Pugsy noted). I think others have reported that that may not be a successful solution. Maybe best to report it to the DME and see if they want to replace it if it continues. In any case, it's got a 2-yr. warranty.

An occasional (rare) need to reboot I might accept but not a repeated erratic machine.
I am with Den. Call DME. This failure also could affect any compliance documentation that might be needed for insurance.

One other note is what time are you checking his data. the s9. measures usage from 12 noon to 12 noon the next day. If you are checking after 12 noon it will read zero hours. but depending on what time zone you are in that time could change

Oops I totally forgot that little tidbit.

I guess I just assume people check data in the AM.

To OP.
There is software available to see for sure if every thing is being recorded properly.

Find a post by Uncle_Bob and look in his sig. There is a link there to a free download of the needed software for the Resmed devices.

I have a RESMED S9 and I have been using it for close to a year now and i have never had any appearing problems with it. I recently decided to check my card and realized that it has only been recording data up to month at a time. For example i first used it oct. 7 of 2010 and it has nothing even close to that date recorded. what do i do?

That's basically what it is designed to do for all but basic summary data (which it captures for a year).

You need to download data from the S9 at least every 7 days if you want to capture detailed and flow data for the long term. See the documentation referred to in a previous post.

Cheers,

Bill

I am bumping this older thread because now for the first time (only about 2 weeks of usage) my Dream Station has recorded my usage from last night incorrectly. I'm worried about the compliance data. It shows that I used it for only 45 minutes last night when it should have shown about 8 hours. I have a tendency to stay up late on the weekends (bad I know), so I didn't actually "go to bed" and put the mask on and turn on the machine until about 5 a.m., then woke up and turned it off at about 2 p.m., so 8 to 9 hours. Not sure if not "crossing midnight" could confuse it or something?

I've never used Oscar but am wondering if that would show the accurate hours or not. Both the Dream Mapper app and the screen on the machine itself say that I used it for only 45 minutes.

Will try to contact CPAP supplier Monday or Tuesday and tell them what happened but why did it do this? Will also try unplugging and replugging. Ugh!!!

I'm pretty sure compliance is 'x' hours a night on average over 'y' days. Also, i think 4 hours a night is the target. In fact I found this:
Most insurance compliance guidelines require that you show proof of using your device for a minimum of 4 hours per day at least 22 days out of a consecutive 30 day period within the preceding 90 days (in the past 3 months).

I hope so. I thought I had to use it at least 4 hours per night for 30 whole days, but if it's actually 22 then that would give me a little leeway for glitches like this. It's not fair that it does this, though. I did legit use it for much more than 4 hours last "night." I've been amazingly consistent with it so far. It's unclear why it can't show that you used it X number of hours no matter what time it is set to or whether it's noon or midnight or whatever. I don't get it!

What if you are a shift worker? What if you had a cold and couldn't use it for a couple of nights?

I'm very motivated to stay consistent with it because it already seems to have lowered my blood pressure a little. Family history of high blood pressure and complications from that.
