I would be more interested in an adjustable mechanism. The user could then get it exactly the right length and the manufacturers wouldn't have to make various sizes for this component. I think it could get very complicated to order the correct mask if it came in XS/S/M/L and each of those in short, medium, and long.

The idea of adjustibility would certainly be a step in the right direction.
For instance, with respect to length, The original quattro in small is too long, yet the next size down (petite?) is too short,
and that's not even discussing the brace--which should ALWAYS be customizable.
However, I can't seem to wear any Resmed full-face masks anyhow because the masks are too flat from top to bottom,
rocking on my cheekbones--forcing a leak either at the chin or into the eyes.
My thought is that the frames needn't be in more sizes, just the cushions--some may even have a custom moldable foam insert
--to accommodate 'freaks' like me.

Increasing the range of existing adjustment is a good idea, too. My ComfortGel mask has a clickstop adjustment for mask angle up and down. Unfortunately, it stops adjusting just shy of where I really need it to go to.

I like your ideas surrounding different kinds of seals - if masks were anywhere as annoyingly sticky as cling wrap, I suspect many problems would be solved. (I can't even begin to describe some of my personal battles trying to put leftovers away...)
The primary concern would then become maintaining skin integrity. Even mild adhesives applied night after night in the same area may present some problems.
You also bring up a good point about easy removal; a mask fashioned to seal with the strength of duct tape isn't going to win any awards.

True - 4 sizes with 4 options here and 3 options there... too much.
A sliding bar of some sort? Have you had any success with masks without forehead supports?

I just want to make sure I get this right: by the brace, you're referring to the forehead brace that connects the mask to the forehead pad? An adjustable angle?
And since there is no 'normal' or 'average' facial dimensions, not to mention the variability across gender and ethnic groups, we're all outliers.
If I'm hearing you correctly, masks need to be comprised of distinct, replaceable parts to keep costs low, and have customizable features and measurements to fit a greater range of individuals.

I have been using nasal pillows with great success for about the last 6 months thus avoiding the forehead support issue. However, had the forehead supports fit me better, I might have stayed with one of the other masks.

I have kept a FFM for use in case I get sick and become so congested that breathing through my nose becomes problematic. At that point, I figure I'll be so miserable, that I'll be happy to wear any mask that I can breathe through, even if it is ill-fitting. Of course, I would rather have one that fits well.

I suspect adhesive masks would be a hard sell for the first mask. I bet a lot of people who've used CPAP masks for a while would jump at the chance. After all, we've got people here who tape their mouth every night to take care of leaks.

A single mask frame could probably be used with both "normal" and adhesive flaps/cushions.

Yes, skin irritation would be a concern. I'm thinking of cases where people already use adhesive on the skin every day. Mouth tapers here. Provent. Breathe Right strips. Nothing else immediately comes to mind. Interesting that they're all at least somewhat related to sleep.

Different seals for regular CPAP use certainly deserve further exploration, considering (to your point, archangle), there are a number of products that currently require adhesive to skin contact on a daily basis and have had success.

another thing that's come up around here... is to have a FFM that works like an Activa... I know it's not your brand/model... but if that was possible...

One that would just float (without leaking!) and doesn't need to be worn snugly.

Interesting that you bring that up; I've heard a number of opinions that came to the same conclusion around the Activa.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but no one wants to ratchet down the headgear straps if they can get a good seal with a looser fit!

Besides the above, what does the Activa provide/what features exist that you feel are must-haves for a FF mask?

I chose the quick release option only, though a good seal is also improtant.
I have really only used one mask since starting treetment. I did try nasel pillows for one week but did not like them. The mask I started with works great for me so I am kind of leary ( mainly because of money) to try a new mask. I figuar "if it ant borken why fix it." I do like the quick release though and would look for a mask with one if i ever did want a nother one.

In general, NO mask works for everyone.
