Nose Bridge Pain
Nose Bridge Pain
New to this site. Was prescribe CPAP machine Dec 2009. Gone through several different face masks and nose masks.
Finally settled on a small nose mask that has a soft gel ring. After a few days the bridge of my nose gets sore, after a week I have a blister and can not use. Have adjusted to the point that it falls off if not any tighter.
I got so frustrated after 3 months in 2010, mothballed the CPAP machine until March 2011 when I noticed sever breathing and health side effect from not using.
Started using again, but I still don't sleep well, wake up frequently due to breathing noise in my head, vivid disturbing dreams and nose bridge pain. Usually take off after 3 am. Then wake not feeling refreshed and tired.
Am very frustrated with this way of life, even though my spouse likes that I don't snore any more when using.
The company who sold me this machine is worthless, and will not even communicate as I asked too many questions and was not satisfied with there follow on service.
The doctors pretty much say that I must learn to live with it and get over my frustrations. I say BS and there has to be a better way of using this damnation of a machine.
Know I can not be alone, but really need a better alternative. Am 53, look like 70 and feel like it too. Have no energy for exercise and am getting too fat cause I just don't feel like myself.
The doctors alternatives is having my deviated septum fixed, tonsils removed, uvula removed and back of my throat stapled. I don't feel surgery is a good option and usually leads to bigger problems in the long run.
Would appreciate any advise and someone to tell me that I am being too whiney.
thanks
Tim

Re: Nose Bridge Pain
The solution is simple....get a new DME and try a different type of mask

Re: Nose Bridge Pain
I had the same problem. Cannot wear anything that is on the bridge of my nose. Switched to Swift FX Nose pillows. No problems since then.

Could you please take the time for formally register here at the form. Then you can send and received PMs. Also go to User Control panel and then your profile and equipment tab and choose your equipment from the dropdown menu. Please use next images are small and all the machines look alike. Easier to read.
What is your pressure.?
There are lots of mask to try. Check out the one I use showing in my profile below. It is very comfortable. and not much stuff on the face. There are many masks you don't have to be stuck with one that causes pain.

Tim,
As Pugsy suggested, it will benefit you to register as a user here and list the equipment that you're currently using.
It often comes down to the mask. It sounds like you've tried a couple thus far with no luck - you're far from alone. It would help us to know what you're currently wearing and some masks that haven't worked for you in the past and why.
You're smart to realize how important effective therapy is for your health. And whiny? You're allowed to voice your struggles and ask for help, encouraged even.
There are a lot of masks out there, and even more tried and true experience from all the users here. If you make the commitment to make it work, you WILL find your solution. (No promises on the timetable... )
One thing is for certain. Well, two things.
One. Your therapy does not need to be painful.
Two. You CAN do it.
All the best to you,
Jess

Regarding the sore bridge...I use a nasal mask and had the same problem. After reading other forum members suggestions I started using "moleskin". I bought a roll and cut off pieces to fit across the bridge. I am still on my first roll after a year, so it lasts quite awhile - available at any pharmacy...
It Eliminated my problem
Try it:

Re: Nose Bridge Pain
I had the same problem after 1 week of using a mask that goes over the nose. I switched to the Swift FX and it is a lot better and easier for me as a new user to adjust with.

Re: Nose Bridge Pain
As many here have said - I had the same problem. After two nights of using a full face mask, my nose bridge was severely bleeding. One of my nostril is partially plugged, so I can't use a nasal mask. I tried on a total face mask, and have been in cpap - heaven since. Take a look at my mask below. Most folks can take one look at it and tell if they will be able to put up with it. What you are going thru is normal. Once you find the mask that fits you, you can adapt to cpap therapy quickly and sucessfully.

Re: Nose Bridge Pain
My solution for this problem was making own mask liner from an old cotton T-shirt cut slightly larger than the mask and find it comfortable ,the silicone does not contact the face and or air leaks into the eyes .
