What are accepatable numbers for AHI and Leaks?

Post by atruvirgo » Sun Jan 23, 2011 4:50 pm

I was told my AHI is 12. I usually get between 3.5-7 on my AHI's this seems to high to me. Also are we only concerned about "large leaks" and time spent in them? I don't really understand "leak info" or "vibratory snore". Would posting my data be helpful for someone to explain to me...perhaps just a week of summaries?

ok... here's the guide to your mask.

http://www.devilbisshealthcare.com/imag ... _67107.pdf

on page 11 of that guide (pdf page) there is an exhaust chart. This goes by pressure on your machine and tells you what your leakage should be.

Furthermore on page on page 9 of the pdf it says that with your mask when you get a draft in the eyes your mask is either too loose or it doesn't fit.

Leakage can cause problems with AHI, but not only how you think, it can at times cause false readings. If your AHI is currently correct it is too high, as far as I know they try to get it below 5.0 to be considered effective treatment. Vibratory snore is caused by a few things, I'd have to look up to remember all of them, but the primary are caused by your airway opening and closing quickly like when snoring or often by hose vibration when you move around. Sometimes you can feel little "mini snores" before you fall asleep. From what I understand these often aren't anything to worry about, but could be indicative of too low CPAP pressure. Along with a high AHI would make me suspicious if it was me. I have experienced my VS lowering when increasing my CPAP pressure, of course my AHI as well.
