still in mask leak jail

Post by lhpangler » Fri Sep 24, 2010 8:30 am

Hello,

to recap, used mirage active lt nasal mask/chin strap, lost weight, mask started leaking.
tried liberty hybrid this week. there is always some issue, leak around the mouth piece, leak around nasal pillows, exhaust air is noisy. I wake up throughout the night to repair.
went back to activa for a night. better sleep (no waking up with leak repairs) but a leak rate of .7 l/s.
FFM all leaked when I tried them

Any ideas which way I should go next to get leaks down?
tweak liberty?
try something else?
stay with old mask and just let it leak?

thanks
LHP

You should have bought the original Hybrid mask, not the Liberty.

But since you did not, here are some tips for the original Hybrid mask that may also apply to the Liberty:

I can still return the Liberty. I have a 7 day money back trial period. It ends today. With my insurance, the whole thing cost me $40, maybe I should start a collection. I will see if they have the mask you suggest and give it a try.

Thanks

So I guess that your suggestion is to stick with finding a hybrid mask.
I am curious as to what you like about the innomed mask versus the liberty.

thanks

If you purchased the mask from a DME you really have a 30 day return policy...

No, that is not my suggestion. My suggestion is that everyone takes responsibility for their therapy and makes their own decisions. I just give input (often worded bluntly) from my perspective.

But I do alway recommend the Hybrid over the Liberty because:

1. The Hybrid comes with all three sizes of mouth cushions. The Liberty only one.

2. The Hybrid has a built-in chinflap. The Liberty has no chinflap (Hybrid patent prevents this).

3. If you prefer the mask without a chinflap (as I do), the Hybrid chinflap can be easily cut away with a pair of scissors.

I also personally like to support the guys who invented a great mask that has improved my life. The ResMed Liberty is an inferior copy of the Hybrid.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
