Mask, how many before finding the right one?

Post by twopu » Tue Jun 01, 2010 7:58 pm

I am currently using the Swift LT because I felt like I was suffocating with the nasal mask during my sleep study. However, I think the nasal pillows are worse and I don't think I'm getting a good seal. I'm thinking about asking the clinician if I can try a nasal mask again. How many masks did you go through before finding the one?

Are you sure the mask is the problem and not, for instance, that your ramp starting pressure, or even scripted pressure is too low?

Well I am on my second I used the Respironics Easylife for about a week and I LOVE IT however I want to be able to pop my mask on and watch some TV as im passing out so I went today and picked up an Mirage Swift II so tonight will be my first night with that but I have already tested it and it fit well and I take to Nasal Masks and or Pillows just fine thus far. The only thing with the MS II is I think Ill have to get a Hook system to help with the hose... My DME told me they have over 100 Masks on hand and to just keep trying them till I find one I like. I have to say My DME is the bomb diggity and I made sure they knew it.

I hope that you find on that works well for you....

I tried two. The one in my profile is the mask for me. I love it. I don't remember the name of the other one I tried but it was not nearly as comfortable.

My pressure is set at 8 so it could be low. I've turned off the ramp because I could barely breath especially at 4.
I'm thinking about asking to try the comfort gel.

How many masks did you go through before finding the one?
Short answer, as many as it takes. In my case, I trialled over a dozen. However, I now believe that's due to the fact that my face is rather longer than wider, and my head circumference is apparently very small, so I think I'm just hard to fit!

It took me 3. Keep on trying to adjust yours. The swift LT adjusts in many ways. Wear it in front of a mirror and try the different adjustments. Don't forget the piece under your nose rotates too. Keep working at it, you'll find one right for you!
