Red Face and tooth sensitivity

Post by Jcastle » Tue Jan 02, 2007 9:37 am

I have been using my CPAP for about a week now and am slowly getting used to it. I have noticed however that I now have a red ring around the nose, similar to clown make up. This lasts all day. I have my head straps set snugly, but not too tight, but continue to wake in the night about 3 a.m. with leaks.

Also I find my lower front teeth are very sensitive when I wake up in the morning. I first noticed this during my sleep study and attributed it to the generic mask used at the clinic not fitting correctly. However, I am still experiencing sensitivity with the large mask I received with the CPAP. The discomfort typically clears up fairly rapidly upon waking. any suggestions on how to releave the problems.

Re the teeth sensitivity, make sure the lower edge of the mask is below the gum line or there will be pressure on your teeth all night long.

If you find a solution to the nose problem, I'd like to hear that. I have tried many suggestions with only temporary success. I have to rotate between masks to prevent open sores from the pressure. It is aggravated by the bifocals I use during the day which press on the same spots. Good luck.

Red Face and tooth sensitivity

I wonder if redness could be related to the air being generated from the humidifier? I am using the H3i from ResMed but find the air very cold. Would warm air reduce the redness?

Not all circumstances are answerable by home-based products, nor by observation. I recommend going to dentistry roseville for professional dental health care consultation and treatment, or if in case your tooth do have a problem, then diagnosis.

I dont have any suggestions about the tooth sensitivity, but for the redness, try putting some porous, hypoallergenic tape under where your mask sits. I was getting red marks on both sides of my nose from my mask, and the redness stayed all day long. Started using the tape, and within 2 days, I no longer have any redness. Your local drugstore should carry it. (3M Micropore Paper Tape is the one I have been using.) I have very sensitive skin and have to be careful when selecting band-aids, lotions, etc to use, but this stuff does not irritate my skin.
