Resmed S9 loud clunky buttons
Resmed S9 loud clunky buttons
Anyone else finding that the new Resmed S9 machines buttons are excessively noisy ?
Even the push down dial makes a loud clunk when you push it down
This is terrible design IMO. I woke my wife up last night while trying to make adjustments using the buttons.
The S8 buttons were completely silent.

Run a finger lightly over the 'info' and 'edit' buttons. They tweet! I think it's an unintentional design artifact. Sometimes when you press them, the tweet happens too.Uncle_Bob wrote:Anyone else finding that the new Resmed S9 machines buttons are excessively noisy ?

I agree about the wheelie dial. While it may be satisfying to hear a click during the day, perhaps not so much at night. It also makes a ratcheting noise if you turn it too quickly - another unintentional design artifact.

I can't say it really has bothered me, but yes--the wheel and push button really shouldn't need to make as much noise as they do.

Hey Uncle_Bob--
Those buttons may be a little noisy...but when was the last time you had 0.0 AHI !!
Actually, I hadn't really noticed an issue with the noise of the buttons, but then I don't have a spouse to wake up in the middle of the night when I am pushing the buttons...just my shih tzu, Roxy

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO-HOO what a ride!
Re: Resmed S9 loud clunky buttons
I find that turning the dial makes it squeak slightly too.

Re: Resmed S9 loud clunky buttons
Geesh, reckon I gotta send mine back.
The button on my S9 does make a click sound when pressed but I couldn't make it make a rachet noise.
The info and setup buttons do click when pushed but I wouldn't describe the sound as loud by any means.
I got cheated
I didn't get noisy buttons
I don't believe I have ever made any adjustments during the night ( perhaps I should have ).
To me, the S9 is the quietest machine I've ever used.

I'll grant you that. It's still the quietest machine in the business.Arizona-Willie wrote:To me, the S9 is the quietest machine I've ever used.
I've changed the humidity in the night, but that only involves scrolling the wheelie dial. I think it would turn off the machine if you tried to change the pressure mid-flow. I haven't had the gumption to try it.
The machine doesn't record any mask events under five minutes long though. The first night, within three minutes, I turned off the flow and changed the pressure because of aerophagia. It didn't record those three minutes after I turned off the flow as a mask session.
It's definitely not something to stop someone from buying the machine.

I'm a bit confused. What are you guys doing in the middle of the night? (I mean with the S9), that still didn't quite sound right.
At night, I've only hit the power button to either turn the S9 on, turn the blower on or turn it off. I'm trying to sleep not read the screen!

Re: Resmed S9 loud clunky buttons
Something must be wrong with my S9 as the buttons do not make any sound at all.
I thought this was normal - no sound - now after reading these posts I think it is suppose to make a click sound - I can feel a click but no sound.
I won't complain as I do not need the sound the click feel is all the feed back I need in the dial.

I never even touch the machine itself. Autostart and all. I don't even check the data on the machine in the morning anymore - I only ever check in Resscan.

Re: Resmed S9 loud clunky buttons
I havent had a ton of experience with the S9 but I have had some S8 machines returned because the Start/Stop button comes loose and catches on the side of the plastic. It has caused the machine to cut off or makes it very hard to get the machine to turn on/off like it is supposed to. Resmed did not cover them under the warranty either!!!

Re: Resmed S9 loud clunky buttons
I had two S8 machines for 4 years (one was my backup / travel machine) and I never had any problems with the buttons. I did have them squeak a little on one machine that drove me crazy a little when I pressed them, but never had a button come off before. I've always treated the machines with respect though, never abused them in anyway and I do quite a bit of traveling so they're in and out of my roller bag luggage quite a bit. Maybe you just had a some defective machines or something changed on the production line that caused this to happen to the buttons. The early machines seemed to be no problem with me.
