Where can i find the "System One Resistance" of a ConfortGel

Post by jensen » Thu Oct 01, 2009 6:42 pm

Hi,

I just purchased a PR System One and one of the setting it has is called "System One Resistance". This value is related to the mask used and can be X1, X2, X3, etc.

Anyone knows where can i find this value for a ComfortGel "S" Mask ?

Thanks,

Well, I am so curious what it is you're referring to - never heard of it before, though others may have. What is it, what does it do? Other than that, I suppose you could call Respironics and ask them.

Jensen that's a good question. I looked all over the recently manufactured FullLife mask (and the printed material) and couldn't find any number.

It should be an X1 through X5 number, as I am sure you already know from owning a PR machine. My guess is they haven't implemented it yet. Typical for Respironics. I will try and find out and see what they say.

Julie - System One Resistance is a setting on the new PR machines that will [quote from the manual] "adjust the level of air pressure relief based on the specific Respironics mask". Each mask is suppose to have a number which gets set on the machine. ResMed has something similar on some of there machines.

System One resistance sounds somewhat like my Sandman Adaptive Pressure Stability (APS) system. It limits the peak and the dips variations of CPAP pressure when a user breathes in and out at the air circuit to the mask. With a full mask you may need a lower setting but if you are using the Swift mask and the like that uses a smaller hose attached the mask you will have more resistance and variation in pressure at the mask level. It is NOT a pressure relief system. On the Sandman the there is a special auto calibration mode that runs for about three minutes creating a resistance profile with any mask without wearing it and stores the profile internally. This system replaces the sensor tube that the GoodKnight was using on the 420E
On the System One it sounds like a manual setting that you set for. The air delivery is more gentle and gives a impression of breathing in a large room with less air turbulence using the Swift LT mask for example. As it turn out to be a very important feature and it helps me to maintain my breathing pattern and to those that are more sensitive to pressure variations and dips midway during a breathing cycle.

Here is exactly what it is... straight from the Philips Respironics brochure:
System One resistance control
Optimized pressure delivery, no matter which mask is used.
System One Resistance Control achieves complete system comfort by enabling the device and mask to work optimally together. Through simple settings, the technology instructs the device to compensate for variable resistance characteristics related to different masks. The result is synchronous pressure delivery and the assurance patients can enjoy the full benefits of our Flex comfort technologies no matter which mask is used.
This will be numbering system will be on Respironics masks. I believe the reference to "no matter which mask is used" is only referring to Respironics masks.

Resmed already publish resistance data about their masks -- I don't know if they use it.

However, it will take us all of 15 to translate ResMed values to equivalent Respironics grades to -- if Respironics ever get their act together. I noted yesterday that I couldn't find the new system (and those RERA boasts) anywhere on either Respironics or Philips sites.

Kudos to Sandman.

Call Respironics customer service. They can give you the resistance values for your mask. The rep may not understand your question - the one I talked to hadn't had a question about the resistance values before me - but they can get them for you.

In the case of the Optilife (what I use), it's different based on what size you use.

I've also been looking for a list.

Wish they would just post a chart online or something. Seems like it wouldnt be that hard.

If I can actually find some spare time, I'll have to make a call to the Customer Service folks.. Just seems like it would be soooo much easier to be able to look it up online.

Did anyone ever find a list or some other useful data.

I've got Swift FX and while I'm not expecting Respironics will give a number for it, I'm hoping we may be able to do a conversion as suggested above.

Please go here for a chart which should provide your answer, namely, X1:
