OT: Fitness Gadget from Phillips

Post by Babette » Mon Dec 21, 2009 3:11 pm

Hey, so the folks who brought you the Phillips-Respironics duet now are branching into the fitness realm. Did you see this on Sunday Morning yesterday? I did:

http://www.directlife.philips.com/

Interesting. Gosh knows I hate running. Anyway, thought I'd share. Might help someone. I'm contemplating getting it. I dunno.

Speaking of running, wanna see a pic of me and my BF all wet and soggy waiting to run a 5K this Saturday? God knows I wasn't smiling AFTERWARDS!!!!

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

It looks like it is just an electronic pedometer that interfaces with your computer.

Plus $12.50 per month with a one month cancellation notice required. A very pricey pedometer. But if it gets one motivated, I suppose it can be worth it.

I've been using the Wii Fit product. The thing is doing some good for me. It tracks your weight, a calculated BMI and logs your use. My wife stopped using it a few weeks back due to a broken foot and every one in a while, the darn machine asks ME where she is. Quite a hoot.

Looks like it is basically a subscription based pedometer. But hey it's on the right track, to get you moving and doing something instead of looking for that magic pill everyone is looking for to lose weight.
Good old exercise is what is doing it for me. Get off my butt and do something and I start losing weight.
You can go to most sporting goods stores and buy a pedometer, don't know if they sell them that interface with a computer tho.

By the way, I had to do a double take, You look a lot like my daughter. I though you had said you were in your 30's in that pic you look younger than that.

Oh, and no it's not that I need glasses those are only readers I need not for computer work.

Yes, just a pedometer. BUT, it can detect and track ACCELERATION. Velly intellesting.

And for the gadget happy, ANOTHER TOY!

I dunno. I already pay $50+ a month to the Y.

LOL,
B.

I actually bought it I react well to LOTS of data and the tracking ability. I figured I'd try it for the three months.

Met with the cardiologist last week and he's got me on a cardiac event monitor for 3 weeks but he says I can try gentle exercise to start to help lose weight. Can't let my heartrate get over 120 though, which means longer exercise that's less intense. I'd like to lose 100 lbs, so it will be a LONG road, but worth it.

When he saw the OSA in my notes, he mentioned how glad he was that I'd gotten it investigated as untreated OSA is a huge heart risk. I KNEW that but was nice to hear it come out of my cardiologist's mouth.

Hey Maura, COOL! Keep us posted on it!!! I'm always needing some fitness motivation. Particuarly during the lunch hour, when the drive through calls. Like it did today.

As for that picture - I'm 45!!! But without makeup, and with a face full of zits, well, I guess I do look younger. I suppose I should be grateful. I just got a copy of our picture from the big fancy company Xmas party. I look like I'm 65 and his mother. Oh joy.

LOL,
B.

Ah, I hate camera's. You have to remember that a camera is only as good as the person behind it. Camera's have come a long way and allow people who shouldn't be taking pictures and have no clue, to actually take pictures of people and places. That's why we all look so different in different pics.

I swear you look like my daughter who is 21.

Good going Babs,

When I 1st read PROOF on the pic I took it to mean 'evidence' Then I realized it meant 'pay money for the pic without the word PROOF on it'.

Pleased to see you taking your exercise so seriously (plus the BF too )

Help me do the math! Twenty minutes of walking equals 100 Cals burnt, How many miles would your McDonald's have to be from you, to burn the cals from a Quarter Pounder w/cheese, a large fry and a medium coke? How long will it take to walk it off, and can I walk back there in time for supper after eating my dinner there?

The way I have to do this now, is I get in my truck and drive to McDees, I am allowed one bite of a plain hamburger, two fries if they are not too long, and a small water no ice. I still don't loose any weight. Jim

Fast food? What a dirty word!
I have been good and haven't had any since late August. Oh wait, My wife did buy a burger for me for dinner one night that was flame broiled. It sure doesn't taste the same eating just the meat and nothing else. But that burger is on my diet as long as it's not on a bun so I did good.

I recently found a fast food that is not all that bad. KFC has new baked chicken I believe they said it's under 400 calories for three pieces. Of course you don't need the fries or rolls with it.
