Lost friend to OSA related surgery

Post by christinequilts » Thu Sep 29, 2005 1:17 pm

A friend of mine that I've known for 5 years from an on-line group died Monday night at home, following a tonsillectomy & UPPP. She had visited here and read, but never posted. She and I had talked about the surgery- she understood the risk going in that it wouldn't necessarily mean she would be able to go off CPAP but she was hoping it would help CPAP work better for her then it was. Its so unreal that she came home from the surgery and posted about how much it hurt and then went to bed, never to wake up again. She leaves behind two daughters, ages 3 & 18; and a soon to be born grand daughter. Her death is being attibuted to 'surgery complications' at this point. She was just way too young and had too much to live for.

I am sorry to hear that. Surgery has alot of risk no matter what the surgery is for.

Christine,

Sad story and great loss. Such young children, far too young to lose their mum.

My heartfelt sympathy & condolences to you and them.

I am sorry to hear about this. Please let us know when the final is in on what caused her death. I was considering surgery myself but now I will have to re-think it.

Christine,

I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said. I am so terribly sorry to hear the tragic news. I will say a prayer for her, her family and you, her friend, who I'm sure will miss her so. Please know we are all here for you should you feel the need for support. Just wish there was something more I could do to help you.

This is tragic and a very, very sad loss.
I have been thinking lately of changing the message at the bottom of my posts; I think I will leave it right where it is.
Buy a new hat, drink a good wine, treat yourself, and someone you love, to a new bauble, live while you are alive... you never know when the mid-town bus is going to have your name written across its front bumper!

Oh, Christine.
Someone once said that riends are the family we choose. I am so sad for both you and her family.

Will, the quote from your signature was never so true.

Christine, my heart goes out to you in your loss in addition to your friend's family. In a little while, when they are ready for it, please suggest that they visit the site http://www.griefshare.org and consider attending a local meeting. Maybe you could go too.

Grief Share is to those suffering a loss what this forum is to those with CPAP machines. My wife is the coordinator of the local group.
