Non-Typical Sleep Study Results

Post by Janelle » Sun Jan 09, 2005 6:29 pm

Wanted to share these results since they are very non-typical in many respects, but typical in others. In fact my Sleep Dr. suggested a night with CPAP to convince the insurance Company I needed CPAP because the results alone would not automatically convince them. But he also said that even though I technically did not have apnea at this test it did not mean I didn't have it and the other results indicated I needed help quick, and my symptoms without treatment would only get worse.

My Epworth score was 15, btw, and I sought treatment because I fell asleep with no drowsiness while driving and had a wreck, which a few seconds later would have resulted in fatality for both me and several other drivers.

Note: I awakened about every hour for a total of 9 times during the night with a full bladder, not typical for me, but I think from a nervous bladder, so this was not a typcial nights sleep for me by any means.

Since my doctor also suggested Narcolepsy, a daytime study was done.

Results: # of naps 4, total # of naps with sleep 4, mean sleep onsets (minutes) 1, total # of REM onsets- none. I was told by my doctor who had a more complete report (I guess I was only given the summary) that at one nap I was asleep in 30 SECONDS!
