Playing with the settings again

Post by Barb (Seattle) » Tue Aug 30, 2005 10:37 pm

I put my autoset spirit back on auto (8 - 16)and will see what happens. I'm not sure what I'm looking for except I know my hypopneas are way too high - the apneas are in an "alright" range, but i'm still tired so I'll see what happens tonight and the next few nights. I still am nervous about changing, but I can't stand the leaks when I had it set (by the sleep center) at straight 12. That "PPHHLLLLLTT" sound wakes me up all night. you know...if the sleep center was closer, and it wasn't such a pain to keep going in, I'd just go in and tell them what's going on. If, after a few days, my mask still makes that noise, I guess I'll have to go back in

Barb, I hope that this pressure change will work for you. I normally use an Activa, but a couple of weeks ago I got a Beeze. It makes the similar noise when the pressure gets up to 15-16. I have gone back to the Activa, as the noise just seems to drive me crazy. Noise seems to be almost impossible to get used to for me anyway. Other than that noise, I found the Beeze to be very comfortable, especially since I am a sidesleeper. All the best!

Have you considered ear plugs?

Earplugs do not work for this type of noise. The passage way from the nose to the inner ear easily provides all the sounds waves necessary. Barb, I think I would have left in it the auto setting, and then closely monitored the results. This would show you if a higher pressure than 12 is sometimes needed.

Since you are having mostly hypopneas I might try a setting of 11-16. You seem to have similar problems to mine. In the end NO adjustment of the Spirit was able to correct the problem.

A GK 420E set at 8.5-12 fixed things nicely .

The Spirit just doesn't work for some .

Maybe I should give it a few more days, then call next week to have them look at it again since the #'s could be lower. Maybe If I make enough "noise" they'll change machines I'm getting the AHI from the machine read out (is that what you were asking?)
