Suggestion for the forum administrator

Post by El Pap » Tue Apr 21, 2009 10:27 am

I don't know how others feel about it, but I'd prefer the forum software be configured to always show the thread status icons on the left side of the topic list. I find it very useful to be able to scan the list of threads to see which topics I've posted in, which threads I've read, and which are hot. The way the software is currently configured, it only shows the status if the first person to post in the thread doesn't have an avatar.

If you look at the list, you'll see a small read square just to the right of a the first poster's avatar - that an inidicaton you havnen't read the last post on the thread. It disappears after you read.

And you can get all the threads you posted in, and their status in your user control panel, under "manage subscriptions". You can subscrib to threads you haven't ever posted in - and keep track of them like that.

Threads you have posted on are marked with a small star. Threads you have read turn blue, unread are red. Hot threads have rolling lines in them. At least that is what mine does.

That only work if the OP has no avatar... No star and nor rolling lines appear on the pictures people have slected to represent them.

Thanks for the tip. I'm usually pretty observant, but I missed those little boxes.

I was familiar with the concept of subscribing to threads, but I think I'd prefer to just be able to scan the topic list looking at the icons. Others may feel differently, but I don't see the value in seeing a miniature version of the first poster's avatar (which in most cases is too small too see anyway) on the topic list.

Scroll down to the bottom of the forum page and you would have found the indications of what is what.
