My experience with Apria

Post by chriscoleman » Fri Jan 16, 2009 8:17 pm

I was diagnosed with apnea, and was told by United Health Care that I needed to obtain my machine and supplies from Apria. After reading all the negative comments about them, I expected the worse. I just wanted to report to all the readers here, that I couldn't have asked for better customer service. My questions and concerns were answered promptly and accurately, and my order was fulfilled promptly. After having my equipment for about 30 days, I called them and asked if it were possible that UHC pay them outright for the equipment instead of "renting" it. The Apria customer service representative called UHC on 3-way, spent about 30 minutes getting it done. Apria even called me back twice, to let me know the status.
I am very satisfied with the service that I've received through Apria. They were more helpful than my doctor or sleep clinic in answering my questions about my apnea.

My two cents, for what it's worth...

Congratulations, it's nice to hear a positive story about Apria. My luck with them has always been awful. Between having a good DME experience, a possitive attitude and having this forum you are well under way to adjusting to your therepy. Welcome to the forum

Betcha Apria quickly sold you a basic non-data capable CPAP.

My experience with Apria products and customers service was great. Their billing was horrible. I had about six months of fun getting a $200 invoice settled. That's why I switched.

My first experience with a DME was with Apria (circa ~1993). I had no complaints. There weren't many choices at that time. The Rep explained which machines were available, went through masks and mask fitting, and explained how it worked. I would have continued with them, had I not moved and was then told that they were out of network.

My next DME (not Apria) gave no choices and has been unsatisfactory. This month marked a change in my insurance that will allow me to change DME's.

All 3 of my experiences with Apria were very stressful, not customer-service oriented. I'm searching for a much more customer-service oriented DME provider to give better service [Houston or Spring, TX area]. Apria's advantage is accepting most all insurance [especially Medicare].

It must be a location thing. My Apria dealer not only had billing issues, but they refused to give me more than one nasal cushion per month. Finally, because I was on the road, called and talked to my insurance company and found they had NO issue with me getting 6 months at a time. They gave me a 1-800 # to use which turned out to be the ins. co's Apria rep...and I got 1 year's worth of cushions. When we came back to town, I went into Apria and requested a 6 month supply and she, once again, told me I could only get them 1 month at a time. You see, they would get my co-pay of $6.00 each month rather than $6.00 for 6 month's supply. And it took me 9 months to get a bill cleared up because of their mistaken coding. I refuse to go to them again. BUT, like I said, I have a feeling it's that office that's the problem....not Apria in general.

That would make Apria Corp. responsible for allowing rogue locations to just set an experience some of us will never forget. The problems go all the way to the top.

For me it was Jan. 2007 when I received my cpap a Remstar plus via UPS. I had NO idea what or how to do things and the UPS driver did NOT stay to help. I read the enclosed literature and tried to watch the enclose CD but it was scratched and would NOT work. Never in my life before or since have I had a CD so scratched it would not work.

I called the Apria # listed and explained, hoping they would point me to a web site I could just watch the video. The lady told me she did NOT know what to do and would have someone call me back.

I am still waiting for that phone call.

So I guess it was Apria the helped me find cpaptalk.com

I, like others, have many other Apria stories but will go and wait for the phone to ring.

Just how long do I have to hold my breath?
