Sandman Auto first night
Sandman Auto first night
I didn't think a machine would make a difference but this one did (so far at least). I haven't installed the software yet but the display shows the previous night's summary stats. I decided to try first night with my prescribed pressure (Auto, 7-12) which, on M-Series resulted in AHI of 5-6 and, after much experimentation on that machine, I ended up needing a pressure of 13 to get AHI below 2.
Last night on the Sandman Auto at pressure 7-12, my AHI was 1.0 and no leak problems. Max pressure was 9. It was very quiet and smooth. No problems falling asleep. I was somewhat concerned because the Sandman does not have pressure relief (CFlex or AFlex) but that didn't bother me at all.
So far I haven't figured out where the air intake is to use my favorite scent of Pur-Sleep
After I've used it for a week or more and have had a chance to look at the detailed stats, I'll post again.

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Thanks for the report ... I too have considered giving the Sandman a try ... maybe next year.

I had the same reaction and results that you had. Keep us posted on your progress. The software will only enhance your ability to take control of your therapy. You may want to get the USB cable for downloading since memory deletion is only available through the cable. While you can easily change settings manually the only way to maintain your own database is through the cable. Using just the memory card will override your data after approx. 340-350hrs. The airflow outlet is between the humidifier and the unit where you should have placed the intake filter. Wasn't it nice to be able to access your data so easily? The pressure adapting sensor makes EPR/CFEX not essential to this unit as you will come to find out as you get acclimated with its operation. Thanks for the feedback and good luck!
Re: Sandman Auto first night
I plugged that one... but you'll find the air intake on the Sandman wherever you are instructed to replace filters... Re: Sandman Auto first night
Good to hear that what I'm experiencing so far seems to be typical! I have the little USB "thingie" (I don't think I'd call that a cable - looks more like a USB flash drive and cost enough).
There was a filter already installed on mine, plus a spare in the case. I still want to get the non-washable extra filter. It sounds like the air intake is essentially on top.
Thanks Thunder & Ozij - this is one of the things I really love about this forum - the ability to get responses so quickly can't be beaten!

Re: Sandman Auto first night
Does it use a hose with a sensor tube?

Mmmmmm - that doesn't sound like anything I've seen. There is the little "flash drive" type of thingie and there's a Smartcard which is for compliance only data.ozij wrote:Does it use a hose with a sensor tube?

Here's the link to cpap.com showing the little thingie I got to transfer data:

Re: Sandman Auto first night
It does not use a hose with a tube. The USB Thingie is the memory card reader which came with the software. The USB cable is a seperate purchase (about $65) from CPAP.com. It allows for setting adjustments to the software directly through the device. I would recommend the fine filters.
Re: Sandman Auto first night
I just checked on CPAP.com and it sounds like there are two ways to get at the data:Thunder Road wrote:It does not use a hose with a tube. 1. the USB memory card reader - to transfer the data to the memory card and then from the memory card to one's computer
or
2. the USB cable which directly connects the Sandman Auto to one's computer. Price of each is about the same.
So, it's my *impression* that either would work and one would choose based on convenience. I'll find out this weekend!

Re: Sandman Auto first night
Thank you! Just an FYI, the memory card will serve the same purpose as the cable initially but keep in mind those of us that like to download dailly the only way to manage your file through the software is with cable. The memory card will just over write your data after a period of time. The cable will allow you to delete the memory from the device so you will not have to create a new patient file everytime you exceed the memory. Just a heads up as you/we learn about the functionality of the unit. Covidien advised me of the difference between them since it did'nt seem to be clear to me while going over the software manual.
Re: Sandman Auto first night
While there is no doubt Covidien did a fine job with this machine, they could have saved some money and made things much easier if they had just used a USB thumb drive and not their proprietary key to USB adapter.mindy wrote:Here's the link to cpap.com showing the little thingie I got to transfer data:

Your opinion is never "meaningless", Gumby! And yes, I agree it would have made things cheaper for sure. I guess they all want to leave room for improvement so they can sell us that "new and improved" model laterGumbyCT wrote:While there is no doubt Covidien did a fine job with this machine, they could have saved some money and made things much easier if they had just used a USB thumb drive and not their proprietary key to USB adapter.
