Oximeters - what's decent? what are you using if you use one

Post by silver123 » Sat Aug 02, 2008 4:45 pm

I've noticed prices are coming down and I'm doing some research on these as a long term add on to therapy.

So what, if anything, are you using? What's good? What features should I be looking for? Any one using the one solde by our hosts?

The problem with the one you are looking at is that it does not record the information. You have to be awake to read it. When I was looking at them my wife offered to sit at my bedside and record the reading only for half the night. If you are going to use it for OSA you need one that records during the night and has a program to read the information in the morning.

I think there are several here:
http://www.semedicalsupply.com/ but they are a bit higher than the manual ones. I have the SPO7500 which is around $499 with the software. It is a good unit but it does eat a rather expensive battery and is a bit sensitive to movement. Some folks did find the batterys cheaper on line but you have to buy 10 or 12 at a time.

I bought the reslink and nonin one for resmed s8 machines. The cable is actually a bit annoying after a while so my next one will be a storage wrist type. I thought the resmed one would make it easier to correlate, maybe that is so - it is easy for me to see what happened when o2 dropped as its on the same timeline graph as the other data the machine collects.

Unsure how difficult it is to compare other spo2 device data with xpap machine data collected.

I don’t know. I didn’t get that impression that prices are going down.
I’ve been looking for that one:

For a long time and it didn’t go down a bit.

I use the Nonin Palmsat 2500A. Uses 4 AA batteries ( I use rechargable NiMH).

Also use the Pro-Fox software.

I learned in the beginning you get what you pay for...

Later,

For that price, $499.00, you'd think it would come with a plug-in rather than batteries...

I know the Nonin is a good unit but is the Pro-Fox software good enough to be worth $460? Ouch! Is there any other way to read the data without the software?

I have the CMS Model 50-F and used it for the first time last night. The software seems good and it has a rechargeable integrated battery. The unit was $318.00 with overnight shipping. The only thing that concerns me is when I checked the data this morning it showed that my SpO2 was running at 95 all night until just before I woke up it registered at 72%!!!!! I pray to God that that is not right! It also showed that when my O2 was at 72 my pulse had stopped!!! I think I may have woken up because my heart stopped beating! I will try it tonight and see if I get the same thing…

I also have the SPO-7500 and am happy with it so far. Not cheap, though and the batteries don't seem to last very long. I buy them at cyberguys.com.

I use the 2-second recording and use the software that came with it - I just choked at the idea of spending another big chunk of cash on ProFox. So far the results seem reasonable compared with sleep lab data.

If you talk to the Pro-Fox guys and tell them the software is for personal use they will very likely give you a much better price (they did for me)

I use the Nonin/Resperionics WristOx 3100 and am very satisfied with it.

Thanks James, I will see what they will do. I was hoping to get a bit better unit. The SPO7500 is a bit too sensitive to movement to suit me.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to keep my eyes open for one of the ones mentioned here. Maybe Santa will be feeling therapy inclined this year. *s*
