One-Month Plus Update

Post by Sleepless on LI » Tue Jul 05, 2005 7:27 pm

To my friends who have helped me through the "newborn" stage here on this site who I haven't spoke with in a couple of weeks or more, I wanted to give you an update. Things have progressed rather nicely over the past few weeks. I am still on my Activa, although I still wake a couple of times a night for only a second or so to correct a leak here and there. I tried the mole skin in various places to try to pad the difference in my facial contours and the mask but it doesn't always work. So I have agreed to disagree with my mask and we just get by that way. Better than waking up all night long from apneas and hypopneas. At least the rest I get between the leak adjustments are beneficial.
Saw an ENT today who thinks if I drop a few pounds, which I didn't realize I needed to as badly as I have realized lately, that I might be lucky enough to rid myself of this OSA all together as I don't have any anatomical reason for having it as far as he's concerned. Like my mother said, I used to look like a knitting needle, so these extra pounds I put on after three kids might be enough to have caused OSA on a body not used to carrying the extra lbs. So I bought myself a recumbent bike a few days ago, have been riding 45 mins. a day and eating better than I ever have in a very long time (well, that is, and extremely carefully), drinking tons of water and exercising. I have decided to get my skinny bod back and try to get as healthy as I possibly can. If there is a possibility to get rid of this new found problem and become well again, I'm putting my all into it. The worst that can happen is, I'll look and feel great but still sleep with a mask after all is said and done.
However, I am full of energy lately, wake up much more alert and less fatigued and have to admit that CPAP is working for me. You know I had a positive attitude from day one and will hold true to anyone reading this who is new to this site and CPAP that it is the best thing you can do for yourself if you are starting the regime. Keep a positive outlook, don't expect an overnight miracle and persevere!!! I did and it worked.
Please write, all, and let me know how you are all doing. I have been very busy working. Just attended my oldest son's college graduation and had my parents in for a week for it from Florida. Look forward to hearing from you and hope you are all sleeping well.

Great news Sleepless, I suspect the exercise is the key to your success. Keep up the good news. I ride my bike 100 miles a week and feel great.

Chrisp, never thought I'd love to feel the burn so much as I do when I'm riding. I'm crippled at the moment from the muscle pain, but loving every painful moment of it!!! Maybe one day, I'll be able to do 100 miles in a week. Good for you!

My goal is to be able to do 100 in a day. First I'll try for 100 a weekend. Still do the 15 a day..............Hey I can dream can't I..

Seriously, My friend is riding in the Soldier Ride from Cleveland to Montauk. He is an amputee. Only has 1 leg. His name is Michael Marsch. Look for him and the other Vets as he pedals on LI. My 100 miles is nothing compared to what these guys are doing. Some of them started in California, some are using hand cranked bikes since they have no legs.

Read about it.

God bless them.

Pray for our troops,
